What is the real reason? Is it the cause or are you focusing on the effect? Self defense is a reason. Protection against rape, abuse, threats, and death. The Protection of property is also a reason. Livelihood, business, shelter and possessions. Sport is another reason. Hunting, target practices etc. Your quip was cute, but it argues a false point. Guns aren't just made to kill people. Killing people can be an after effect of some reasons why people own guns, such as killing a person looking to do you harm. just today .. http://news.yahoo.com/woman-uses-her-gun-ward-off-abduction-190207403.html
Clearly, she misunderstood their intentions. Everyone knows a baseball bat's sole purpose is to play baseball.
I missed out on the part when I was trying to do that. I do recall that the uzzi submachine gun was an integral weapon of the Israeli Defense Forces and that it played a fairly good part in thwarting attempts to erase Israel off the map. hey, how about that? National defense, is that a reason?
i thought we were talking about a 9 year old. Not to avoid answering your question, yes national defense is an appropriate use for that weapon. In the process of national defense, sometimes people have to be killed. People do not have to be killed in order to celebrate a 9 year old girl's birthday. and again I reiterate. That gun is made to kill people. Period.
Um isn't that the point of all guns? I think it's high time we all revisit the whole second amendment thing. I'd like to pint out that it's the only amendment that calls for regulation. All of the other amendments (save the 18th) provide freedoms.
Not sure the purpose of the 2nd amendment was to have 9 year olds with UZI's......... Chopper has made some EXCELLENT points that some on this site just don't get.
Youd be looking hopelessly for one quote on this thread that argues that handing a 9 year old a fully automatic weapon is a good idea.
How about a 9 year old firing a gun? Comparing riding a bike to shooting a gun? It is all here........and disturbing
Is this thread still going? Just shoot me... wait, I didn't mean that. It's just an expression... Please - continue circular reasoning and twisted logic to convince everyone that more guns (in the hands of the "right people" of course) makes us safer! Please find anecdotes and news-clips of extraordinary situations to prove your point or at least to whip up fear and frenzy. Feel free to use trite oversimplifications and slogans to help. For example, "If you outlaw guns..." You know the words - sing along! Or maybe this reassuring, thinly-veiled evangelical threat "Know Jesus, Know Peace. No Jesus, No Peace." Mixing religion with guns is always re-assuring! Wait - here it comes - "The Crusades and the Inquisition happened without guns...." Right on cue. "Therefore...." Of course, the other side of this argument is equally adept at finding anecdotes and newsclips, but they don't seem quite as skilled at slogans. Gotta work on that, you 2nd amendment haters! Ahhhh well, what can I do? (PS - The sarcasm is intended to poke fun at the very, very predictable nature of humans arguing - myself included.)
