Hahaha, well I did pick up this 29'er bike last week... http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/path-bike-shop/61048-best-price-cheap-16.html#307
Working on resurrecting another old battlecruiser in the fleet. Yeti Ultimate frame, fork & stem Full Campagnolo Record OR gruppo, incl seatpost & rims Ringle Mojos, TiStix & Seat Collar King headset, Ibis Ti bar, Smoke/Dart, SI Flite Saddle, ODI/Tomac Attack grips. The fork decals look crazy, but John Tomac put em on that way 20 years ago so... I guess they stay. There are a few bikes I don't quite feel worthy to ride. This is shaping up to be one of em.
Better you than me! You may feel not quite worthy but I for sure am not worthy. That (is already) will be a beautiful bike when ready.
Here's my Klunker. A 1980 Schwinn. Played around with a few different builds, this is the latest. Shimano 36h disc hub drilled out to fit the fat 12g spokes. Avid BB5. SID fork with 1 1/8 steerer in an old frame, yeah it's possible. Atom drum brake, Raceface cranks, 32/17 gearing with a chrome BMX freewheel. Suprisingly fun to ride. Only 35 lbs.
I really liked that mod when you first posted it. I think it's worth a link  http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/workshop/65280-fork-1-1-8-steerer-old-school-frame.html
Wow, I am glad to see so many vintage rides close by. I think we need to organize a group ride! I came to post about the upcoming Reseda To the Sea bike ride. So far there are about 40 people registered on Facebook. Here is a link to the event or you can look up Mr. Tick on facebook. http://allevents.in/los angeles/2013-Reseda-to-the-Sea-VVofA-Birthday-Ride/494316570611996 I will be there with a friend or two. Victor Vincente (Mountain bike Hall of Fame member) will be there. There will be t-shirts, food, beer and all manner of old bike geekyness. So get that old steed tuned up and come on out. I will be riding one of these.
If you want a good workout take a 40+ pound bike out for a 20 mile trail ride. After a few weeks of that get back on your modern rig (an 08 Epiphany for me) and you will feel like the fastest rider in the world. Although, the bike in the first pic is just 34 pounds. I ride my old bikes on my daily commute. I am lucky that I can get a few miles of dirt in on the way home. Then I ride my modern rigs on my weekend rides, although since I built that 36 Elgin with disk brakes I haven't touched any of my other bikes. Here is what it used to look like: And what it looks like after a proper beating:
My first love I remember the moment as if it was yesterday, I was 16, I worked all summer with my father to buy my first mountain bike. Dude! mountain biking was so cool! There was not a single mountain around but that was just a minor detail, I wanted a mountain bike! Fast forward; I used the bike for about 9 years, left it in a garage for about 10 years. And discovered its beauty and simplicity about a month ago when I went back to my folks garage. Surprisingly, the STX was still shifting smoothly and accurate like on day one. I put tires from other bikes, a new chain and cables and took off, I was like a kid again. The frame is kind of small for me now, but there's something in the bike that makes the ride really comfortable, I was mostly on dirt roads but went for 40-60 miles rides without feeling tired at all. Perhaps was just me in vacation mode. No rush, no compromises, no waking up early; just enjoying life.
Anyone have a Cannondale headshok hardtail with the replica team paint job (olympic red white and blue)?
Someone mentioned Iron Horse as vintage since your can't find one anymore. I had several bikes at one point but sold them all except for my MKIII. Original frame and rear float shock. Everything else has been replaced at some point. I also attached a pic of my old Giant DS2 Warp bike Another one I had....REI Novara. This picture is not my bike but I had one similar but in yellow of all colors:

1999 FSR XC: 1968 AMF: Mine and my wife's 60s Columbia Beach Limo (which occasionally has a Schwinn trailer attached to it): My old roommate was going to throw the Motive away: So I extended the cables and turned it into my cruiser (which also gets trailer duty when we don't take the limo):
