Heres the list I am giving you from my experience.
    1) land Rover( yes # 1 on the list for a reason)Such piles of crap
    2) Any new VW
    3) Ford Taurus ( they keep mechanics working)
    4) anything that says Jaguar
    5)Cadillacs
    6)any 7 series BMW
7)A Chevy S-10 with an Isuzu motor.
    8) a 6 cylinder Mustang (really whats the point)Notice how this is number 8 on the list.
90)Any Mazda or Ford with a 2.5 dura tech motor
    10) Last but not least. Any chevy car that is front wheel drive with the 3.1 or 3.8 motor. Impala,Malibu,Corsica,Buick regal. ect......

Thanks Danny! Good to know what to stay away from. We used to have a VW Beetle, great car mechanically, but all the little stuff started to break. Antenna, Dealer wanted $500 to repair. Window knob broke off, the dealer wanted $250 because you can't just buy the button, you have to purchase the whole assembly. Bunch of other stuff too. When the lease came up, I was glad to hand them back the keys.

For real, if i test drive 10 Land Rovers, only one will pass inspection. I test drive at the very least 50 a week and every single one has problems.

#1 doesn't surprise me at all. My sister has an LR3. She seems to be driving a rental than the actual care she owns  Other family and friends have had the same experiences w/ other Land Rovers.

Take a look at how much they are used. Actually I will tell you: Not much. I have always admired Land Rovers(even though I've never owned one) and when I came back from overseas I was considering getting one and then I looked at ConsumerReports.com and whoa, almost all full red dots, which is mucho no bueno.

Yes the new ones have a lot of problems. The old Vw Rabbit diesels rocked. But let me ask a simple question(Old VW).Why would you put an air cooled motor in the back of a car????:-k

Not sure but my Dads old Bug ran forever, I think it was almost 20 years with one engine change and minor work here and there.

Plus what other car can you do an engine swap with 2 people in under 15 min?

my uncle had a disco 2 and we abused that thing like crazy. Reliability may not be that good, but when it works its pretty good. note: these are off road vehicles so if you never take it off road you may not appreciate its capability.

Good list. To be honest (and I know your biased) I'm surprised not to see a couple more euro manufactuers. But hey, you're the pro, what do i know.

I'd be interested to see what your Top 10 cars (based on reliability, like this list?) would consist of.

Well ya cant go wrong with Toyota or Honda.Subaru,Mitsubishi and Nissan are a close second.Cheap poor built interiors, but bullet proof mechanical wise.If you have a car in mind PM me and I will let you know from my test driving how a particular model is.
Now as far as hybrids I have seen post about how much it cost to replace the Battery/power source. But the failures are few and far between. If you have a factory warranty the cost to you is minimal. So yes hybrids are a very good option, even though they need a lot more "testing"
