I know there's some people on here interested so I made a thread.

We'll meet at the Santa Ana train station at 7:30 rolling by 8. Down to PCH and follow it all the way to San Diego, roughly 100 miles. Then take the train home to Santa Ana, cost is $24 and they run just about every hour from noon till 9:15pm.

This rides mostly flat with little climbing except some rolling hills on the Newps coast and one big hill (Torry Pines) in SD.

Heres a quick route I made up, most of this is the way I went last time we did this. Everyone needs ID's for Pendlton which shouldn't be a problem.

    Google Maps Route

RSVP Here so we know about how many people are going.

I wish I was enough shape to do this. It has been my goal since I started riding regularly ~6 weeks ago. However, I have plateaued at ~20-25 miles at the moment. :(

My legs could go further, but my wrists, shoulder, and neck or shot at that point. I am assuming it is due to my fat tire in the midsection and low core strength, which requires me to put too much weight on my arms after ~10-15 miles.

I hope we won't be averaging the 25 mph pace like the ride you all did today...lol

Not sure.... my garmin from our last ride there says 3,700 feet but I don't know how accurate that is.

The only major climb, i think, is Torrey Pines. Other than that its mostly rolling and short hills. Once you hit Hwy 101, it should be a blast!

When i did it from newport my garmin showed 2,700 feet, so if you throw a few more hills in 3,700 seems possible. All the climbing is in rolling hills and non are too tough

Of course! As long as you can ride 100 miles or provide your own transportation

This sounds like a lot of fun....but I did notice from your map we will be a few miles short of a century. I dont know if you are set on your route, but last time I rode to San Diego, after climbing to the top of Torrey Pines, we made a right on N Torrey Pines Drive. It was an awsome downhill and put us at Pacific Beach. From there we took a bike trail up to Mission bay, which from you map we will be riding through. Maybe a good way to grab a few extra miles and have some DH fun on a road bike. In any case count me in.

Ive yet to ride even 50 miles in a day, but its mind over matter and I bet I can bust it out. Are most taking road bikes?

I am going to be on a road bike and I think most everyone else will be as well.

The first 50 are easy...its the 2nd 50 that kicks your behind. Also, I do agree with you most of it is mental, that is until I get cramps and cant move my legs, but that is a different discussion.

What type of bike were you thinking of bringing?

Do you know if there is a parking fee at the train station?

    Thanks!
