^^^ completely impossible on Black Star. The soil there has too much clay content. So if it rains Friday night or even drizzles early Saturday morning, the ride will not happen. You may has well leave the bikes if you decide to go cause your tires will load up with mud so fast, you won't be able to ride it.

If ridden Black Star while not raining on the way up, but on the way back down had some light rain and this what happens:

I've succumbed to the small block eight wheel pack one late night doing Blackstar/Motorway with a bunch of other nuts (Winger/Ch4os/Matt..). We rolled at 7pm and the rain just kept getting heavier and heavier. My bike locked up due to those tires when everyone else running some variations of WTB and Panracers were not packing. Had to turn back alone and ride back to the car solo. Not cool as I took a digger due to sudden stoppage. Solo diggers in pouring rain at night in Blackstar are no bueno.

You're funny - too warm, too low of elevation, and there were still pellets in the backyard this morning in the cracks in the concrete ... I call 'hail' ;)

However, graupel is easily distinguishable from hail in both the shape and strength of the pellet and the circumstances in which it falls. Ice from hail is formed in hard, relatively uniform layers and usually falls only during thunderstorms. Graupel forms fragile, oblong shapes and falls in place of typical snowflakes in wintry mix situations, often in concert with ice pellets. Graupel is also fragile enough that it will typically fall apart when touched.

But it's very windy now! Hoping for a great day tomorrow, the kid is so excited!

Actually 1x1clyde is getting ready to head out NOW and do some 'SCOUTING" He's been up and down Blackstar in the mud and refuses to lead a 100+ person ride up and down it if it's muddy.

    More later -

Just looked at some wind reports
Sierra Peak 17 mph gusts to 31 mph 47ºF
Santiago Peak 33 mph gusts to 42 mph 26ºF Wind Chill 18ºF
Fremont Canyon Weather Station Peak 45 mph gusts to 58 mph 54ºF

Looks like Sierra Peak had less than half an inch of rain - Santiago still has snow showing

Granted its wet right now but riding Blackstar or the any of the Santa Ana's in the wind scares the $#!+ out of me. I've been out there when the 909/951ers caught the Corona side on fire and within minutes I saw thick smoke shooting over the ridge towards me way fast. Freaked me out.

    Update

Ok - SOO - He rode to the bridge thats getting worked on and they turned him around. They won't be done working until 3:30 ish today (allowing for access)...

His report was "Small puddles nothing huge" not really any mud BUT (huge BUT!!) where the mud usually is, is past where they stopped him.

So - with that being said.

Who'd like to take a ride up this afternoon to check things out past the bridge???

oh and he reported it's WINDY!!! lol
