Newb needs Help- Turner 5 Spot, Ellsworth Moment, or Yeti 575 for SoCal AM trails???

I'm really getting into this MTB thing!! I'm thinking of ditching the HT in favor of a nicer Full Sus Rig. I am limited to funds so after some research I think I've narrowed it down, but I'd love some of your opinions.

Used "Demo Bike" Ellsworth Moment- $4,995 Sticker- but someone has a Demo for $2,700 (might get him down to $2,500)

Used Turner 5 Spot- haven't found a used one yet, but I can wait. I'm thinking around $2,300+ range (not really sure what they go for used)

New Yeti 575 Enduro Race Disk- $1,999- $2,300 ($1,999 is dependant on how long the sale lasts)

Wildcard- Also looked at a New Specialized StumpJumper Expert-$2,500. Like this one cause it has a 14 Month/same as cash deal going on that I could do. But it only has 4 inches of rear travel.

Lastly a used '03-05 Specialized Enduro- I've been seeing them go for about $1,500 on E-bay.

I'm sure that these bikes have been beaten to death, but I'm a Newb who would like some Fresh opinions.

After riding with Aldo (Bananaseat, sorry if I spelt your name wrong Bro), I really like the 5 Spot! That thing was a machine. It had a great Pilot, but a killer machine it was.

Please help me out with ANY opinions you have.

I would go with the 5 spot if you can find one. you should also look at the Santa Cruz nomad. I want one.

Or a blur LT's another option. Most all those are good option. Ellsworth has had issues with durability. If you get a specialized I'ma have to refer to you as 'special guy' though.

Thanks everyone. I really want a 5 spot, but I would have to put that sucker on my Credit Card, and wait till someone puts one up for sale.

I'm looking at a new/'06 Specialized Enduro (not the Enduro SL with the dual crown fork, the older style one), they go for $2,500 and they are on sale for $1,900 and I can finance that one.

Best bike 5 Spot, best deal, maybe the Yeti. That sounds like a great deal for that price and depending on what kind of fork it comes with.

i agree with pain freak. you rode strong on that relic hardtail, a new full suspension bike will blow your mind.

I have no experience with the Moment, other than a quick spin around a parking lot. However I have owned a 575, and currently own a 5 Spot. I don't like Ellsworth.....so let's just forget about that one. Differences between the 575 and 5 Spot.....well since I currently own the 5 Spot and have no plans to sell it you could say I like the Turner better. I prefer a more "active" rear suspension and the Turner definately feels more active when descending. It just has a more plush and controlled feel despite having less travel than the 575. I even had my RP3 on the 575 Push'd and it still didn't compare to the way my 5 Spot feels with a stock DHX-air. Let's just cut to the chase, if you want the perfect do-it-all bike, get the Turner. If you are a weight weenie the 575 definately could be built lighter due to the lighter frame. Not saying the 575 is a "bad" bike, it really is a great frame for the price. I just feel the 5 Spot suspension descends much better and doesn't give up any climbing ability....other than more weight. A 5 Spot with a Pike air fork......and you're in heaven!

The Stumpy's actually have 120mm of rear travel--almost 5" and 4"-5.5" up front. Definitely worth a look. Not necessarily a better bike, but more bike for your money, which is an important consideration when you're on a budget.

Also worth a look are the '07 Spec Enduros. 6" and 6" in a sub 30 pound package. I'm thinking of getting an SL comp Specialized Bicycle Components : Choose Region + Language and swapping my current Enduro's components over (since they are better than the spec) with the exception of the shock and fork. Then, take all the SL's components and put them on my current Enduro frame and use it as a back-up ride.

Actually, the best bang for the buck in the TrailBike market is the Heckler. You can get pretty decent one for around 2k new. Get one with a DHX air and a Pike air fork and you will have a really good bike. Turners are nice, but you will pay a premium for them over a Heckler. Don't listen to Cal Epic, he bought a gravity dropper seatpost after FoShizzle talked him into it!

In my opinion, you should wait a month for the year to turn.
2006 bikes will be cheaper in a little over 30 days.
Upgradeitis is damn hard to fight, but a little short-term patience will probably save you some $$.
If you are going for the limited funds solution, I agree with Von - the Heckler is worth a look.

Hold out for the Turner

I bought my turner about a year ago for 1600 used off OC craigslist. The second ride I had with it the fork collapsed but RockSHox not only warranted it but gave me the new 09 version of it. So I was pretty stocked. Other than that the bike has worked like a dream. I had a Schwinn Moab 2 HT from 1998 or so and so its night and difference. I was able to ride pretty much anything with the Schwinn just not as fast and not nearly as much fun as the turner, the turner has the fun factor. Hold out and keep checking Craigslist and ebay for the turner. Get it right the first time. My turner is an 05 and it works awesome just had cosmetic damage that doesnt affect performance. You can always buy new stickers later.

my friend has the moment and complains its too heavy its about 33 pds my turner is 29.
