Just got my first MTN bike in Feb, I have always been a runner but I blew my ACL out last May so now I'm into Mtn bking. I suck at downhill, but I'm getting stronger uphill (have been riding mathis and cholla 3-4 times a week) . I also started riding and running combo in Alsio woods.
    names Perry.

What bike did ya get? Lots of us ride Aliso, I'm sure you'll either run into somebody or be in on the rides yourself :)

Downhill skills comes with a bit of coaching and tons of practice. A bit of stretching your limits helps too - sure you'll crash but that just means you're pushing your comfort zone.

    But yeah . . . welcome

I got a trek 6500 which I was told is a good starter bike. I already went through one back tire from skidding down, Meadow, mathis, Lynx , LOL! The guys are Rock and Road laughed at me, since I have only had the bike since the first week in Feb. But I have been putting on the miles, riding it at least 3-4 times a week. Did the El Moro loop today, it was ok, but not worth $10!

bike is Blue, sometimes I have a bike chain around my neck on days that I run/bike.
going up tomorrow around 9:30 am, bike/run

Welcome, please try to avoid skidding at all costs, it works the trails pretty hard. As you develop your skills, you'll learn to feather your front brake and learn brake modulation. Not sure if you have noticed the studder bumps on Lynx and Rock-It, but those are mainly created because of skids.

Again, welcome to the site and keep the rubber side down.

    Welcome Perry!
For El Moro I park up top at the end of Ridge Park. It is sort of a backwards way to ride since you put in a big climb ~3/4 of the way into the ride instead of at the beginning, but at least it's free! \\:D/

Bro, same story here, used to be a runner, got a case of Plantar Fac. after the Boston Marathon last year, turned to this sport. I also have a "starter" bike (Haro V2). I'm ok at climbing, can ride all day due to my previous marathon training, suck at downhill and going over logs and stuff. I live near Aliso and as soon as it stops raining on Fridays, will get out there. PM me if you want to ride.

Ridge Park is off of Newport Coast Drive in Newport beach. Try Googling it.

Otherwise, Aliso is the ol'reliable afternoon ride-fix. See you out there before too long!
