Tehachapi, CA. After a two day feasibility visit and a month of crunching data and map-making things are looking good for this small SoCal city. Sitting about 2 hours from 22 million people, Tehachapi’s plans to develop a near year-round Lift Accessed Bike Resort are one step closer to reality. As with any project of this scale, there are still a number of hurdles to cross but the passion and drive of city staff are unlike anything we have seen before. Stay tuned for updates! - See more at: http://www.whistlergravitylogic.com...ike-park-on-the-horizon/#sthash.ynNNlzGw.dpuf

I was driving through Tehachapi last week and I thought to myself "what a shame that there are no trails here" (at least that I know of)

IMO, before they drop that kind of coin on a bike park with lift access, they should at least get some kind of trail network going.

Wonder how the dirt is out there. Looks to be 70 miles farther each way than summit.

the more the merrier. That will make a nice third stop going to north to ride mammoth and North Star.

From the highway the dirt looks to be a lot like the soil in Kernville.

Don't worry...I am sure the FS will find some way to get involved and hamstring it!

I've been tangentially involved in this project through my role in CORBA. Yes, they do have plans for a bike park. They're also building a pump track in town. I taught a trailbuilding class there a few months ago, and there are new XC trails being planned and built, but as of this moment, they're on private land and only accessibly by permission. These new trails will eventually join with the planned Lift-Access Bike Park, if they are able to make it happen. There's a lot happening in that area, and the City is fully behind making Tehachapi a mountain biking destination. The full credit goes to the Tehachapi Mountain Trails Association, the new tehachapi high school mountain bike team, and some very forward-thinking, eager and understanding city employees and leadership.

Will this park be associated with Woodward's? My son and I spent some time with them and that was a pretty quality operation. This definitely has potential, the conditions and topography of the area look great! Hopefully STR stays updated with the project's progress

A problem with the Tehachapi area is that is very little public land up there. FS couldn't mess it up if the wanted to.

Any idea on when this is expected to open? Even though it's further than Summit, it could potentially be open year round.

It would be nice to have a winter bike park to ride.

    what are you talking about???
there isn't any forest service land for 20-30 miles from Tehachapi.
    That's a negative attitude.
in fact, Tejon Ranch owns most of the land outside of town.

most likely it's on city property or a private landowner that wants to develop it.

Was an ironic statement...more commentary on Snow Summit than reality....

yeah, they require a lot of surveys and other processes that need to be completed prior to permitting/approving things on their land. I've dealt with that before in my job. . .

The city owns a significant parcel of land, for which they have plans for a year-round bike park. The estimates were that it would be able to open for approximately 300 days per year given weather constraints. That City property is surrounded by private properties, not Forest Service, and they are negotiating with those property owners to build trails. The XC trails that are currently being built are on private property (not Tejon) that abuts the City property, so, if plans come to fruition, the trail network and bike park will all be on City property or on City-owned easements on private property.

The pump track that is planned is in a City park in the middle of town.

True bike park with lifts? Probably Southern Hemisphere. Shuttle with some runs Bootleg but it's nothing like Mammoth or BB jump park.
