BTW, i did the Skyline-B* and back trip on Sunday. I was about to bonk 2mi before Beeks on the return trip. This is why i asked about food. I need to work out a better food method for the trail. I couldn't imagine adding another 74mi and 8000ft. I still haven't recovered.

Starting on the B* side is easier....more mellow climb to get warmed up on. There is no denying it.....Skyline is steep. Same elevation gain as B*, but about 2 miles shorter.

It is a great training ride though. About 27 miles and 4100'.

My usual food intake for that ride is is a couple of packs of Bloks and a Hammer Gel or 2, plus 2 24 oz bottles w/ Skratch Labs Hydration mix, and a 24 oz. bottle of water.

On this big ride, I really never felt hungry. I also was not on my normal schedule when it came putting calories back in. Instead of 2 Bloks every 45 minutes, it was more like every 1:00/1:15.....Perpetume Solids were about every 1:30 instead of 1:00. Worked out ok...but I need to keep a better watch on it next time.

I race the 12 hours of Temecula a lot, and use Infinit Nutrition. Just mix about 280-300 calories in a bottle and drink a bottle an hour. Can go all day none stop. I get 11 or 12 laps in at 9-10 miles a lap with about 1 K of climbing per lap. I like it because it is simple. When I do rides like J, with no support, I mix a super concentrated bottle for all day, and add it slowly to my water bottles and camelback. It is one way to carry a lot of calories.
