RR: Mt. Pinos, McGill Trail

Los Padres National Forest, 12 miles west of Frazier Park.

I want to thank Mike (PainFreak) for the invite and Epic Riders MTB Club http://www.ermtb.com for putting this ride together.

I had not been on this ride and jumped at the opportunity. It was over a two hours drive to get there from Laguna Beach and well worth it. If you like to earn your downhill and you like your downhills fast this is your ride. The ride is mostly single track with very few obstacles on the trail, so you can get up some major speed while going through the trees. Some way fun waterbars that you can get major air on.

My GPS said the ride was 17.57 miles and 3530 ft climbing. Rides starts at 5977 and top of Mt Pinos is 8798.

Put this down as a must do ride, it is among the best So-Cal has to offer.

Yes after ride BBQ.

You're very welcome. I'm just glad I was the one that got to show this gem to you. It was a great day as far as riding goes. A little on the cool side for this desert rat,but rideable all the same. We had a fairly quick ascent with NO mechnicals of any kind. One of the riders was a little wore out from way to much riding, but he did well enough. I almost ate it 3 different times on the way down. The one that was the hairest was having to much speed to simply roll one of the jumps and then not pulling up hard enough on the bars so the front tire came down first. At about a speed of 22+. Even after taking it down a notch I had another 2 close calls. As you can see we had a really good BBQ after the ride, it really hit the spot, although I ate way to much. Climbing at altitude was a reminder of how much more I need to do to get back into riding shape.
