... those who've hiked it say the Preferred Cycling Trail on Mt. Gleason has portions that are so buff it's like its been groomed with Zamboni ...

Would that portion be the one heading towards Angeles Forest Highway or Santa Clarita?

Maven, the portion I speak of is on Gleason's east side. Not the final mile to Mill Creek Summit; that section is OK descending tho at times sandy. But the portion from about a mile up from Mill Creek Summit (where it crosses the paved road) all the way to Gleason's summit is cool runnings.

I've not done it, but my friends claim the section from Gleason to Aqua Dulce is one of the all-time best er, walks.. .ever. 25 miles of roller-coaster goodness. It's a shuttle, of course. and we're talking theoretical. Or - -if you want to damage the trail severely and scatter lots of sh*t on it, you could ride the route on horses.

Your friends must be old, the PCT has been close to bikes for what like 20 years now.

One of the classic semi-epics for roadies is to start in Sunland, ride up Big Tujunga to Angeles Forest Highway to Mill Creek Summit and up to Mt Gleason. The cafe at Hidden Springs makes for a great SAG stop coming and going...
