wow, it all makes sense now... as myself and others were riding up to the grade last night, we noticed santiago was closed off to all traffic. i knew it was an accident, but i wouldn't have thought it was bike related. This really comes close to home for all of us as nearly all of us have ridden on that road before. Having nearly lost my father, i know what it feels like to be in her family's shoes. My deepest condolences go out to her family and friends. I may go out there tomorrow and leave flowers

I'm very sorry to hear of the fallen rider. I never met her, but already she has left an excellent testimony. My prayers go out to the family.

    MEMORIAL RIDE FOR CHRISTY
We decided at the hospital to dedicate a ride for Christy this Friday, December 1st. We invite all of you to express your love for Christy as we celebrate her life and love for mountain biking.
Meet in the McDonald's parking lot across the street from Whiting Ranch at 9:00 a.m. We will pray and then take the same route that she and Debbie did on Tuesday evening. I am trying to discern the safest way to be able to enter Santiago Cyn Rd in order to place flowers and fire safe candles.

Thanks for posting the memorial ride. A simple but very appropriate gesture for such a wonderful person.

I'm sure those of you who did not know Christy would certainly recognize her from many of the photos on the TrailAngels website. She was a fixture on most of the trails that we all ride.

Keep her family in your prayers this season.

What else can be said? I truly feel for her and her family. Like Lety asks, "Is it selfish for us to risk our lifes?" It might be, but it's something some of us MUST do. It's what makes us who we are. I can truly feel her pain in her post and I can only imagine the pain the family must be experincing. My condolences. A while back someone posted a poem that was posted for another mountain biker who was hit by a train and died. I'd like to share it here again:

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there; I do not sleep

I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on the snow,

I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain,

When you awaken in the mornings rush,
I am the uplifting rush of quietbirds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Unfortunately, I'll be out of town. Perhaps there will be one on a weekend?

If George does a ideo of the Sunday ride may be he can make a dedication on the video credits - that'd be a nice gesture as alot of us work on Friday

Our prayers go out to Christy's family.
Just a reminder how responsible we must be while driving. I have often said driving a vehicle is the most dangerous activity we will ever do. Be careful this could have happened to any of us.

My post was from an e-mail from the church mtb group. I didn't write it but it was well put. I knew Christy, didn't see her often but in the past few years she always greeted me like an old friend when I was able to ride with the group. I will be out at the memorial ride on Friday.

See will be greatly missed by her family, students and fellow mtb riders.

I didn’t know Christy, but I feel like I lost a sister. My prayers and condolences go out to her family and all of you who knew her and suffer her loss. For those of you who can make it to the memorial ride, I’ll see you there.

    Blessings to all of you.

I just got back from my grandmother's funeral and it really hit home how devastating a loss it is for loved ones left behind and that's without young kids.

It reinforces the need to make sure our loved ones know how we feel about them.

I'm sure Christy's family is suffering. I know I'll be saying another prayer for them.

This is so sad ... It seems like it's always the person w/ a family who gets fatally injured. That portion of road at Whiting is scary! My mom is about this age, and I can't imagine losing her. Did anybody go to the memorial ride? How old is the son? This is why the DMV should be constantly checking the vision of elderly folk ...

This is a very dangerous section of road. A lot of people cut the inside of the the turn and drift into the bike lane.....not just the elderly. I ride out there a lot and see it all the time. Please keep in mind that it was dark and none of know whether or not they had lights/taillights on. Yes the driver was elderly, however it could have just as easily been a 30 year old or 20 year old driver.:?:

Don't get me wrong it is very sad and I feel for her family. I have met her a few times at the LBS and on trail.....helped sell her the Santa Cruz she was riding. Making that cross over from Whiting to Modjeska is a dangerous spot....in the day let along after dark. Just makes you think that it could have been any one of us.:-k
