My favorite road ride. I can't wait to get better and do it again. I was thinking of doing it on my tour bike after I get a little fitness back.

    Yes Freak, it's a great ride!:bang:

Short 20 yard sections were a little wet near the village, some ice on the side but not much at all. Nothing slippery!

GMR.....Lonehill up to Foothill (don't confuse Rt 66)
right (north) on Valleycenter (corner of Glendora highschool)
left onto Sierra Madre...only 30 yards thena quick right
    right onto Glendora MtnRd.
---------- some park at the dirt lot (left), some park on Bouldr Springs (onlyh stoplight) and some on Glendora Rd itself at the bottom near Siera Madre.
    -------------------------

Gat to the shack is 8 mile (16 rountrip)..2200 ft of climbing

TO the Village is 42 roundtrip (5000 ft of climbing)

crazy people add the ski lifts :D

The final 8 mile descent/or from the shack looks like this!:D

Funny, I was looking at the pics and thinking I woulda run right over those idiots in the middle of the road if I was on my motorcycle up there.... or even in a car....

I hope that the riders were not wearing ipods and were keeping a careful ear out for heavier, motorized vehicles...

I always understand that everyone one wants to use a scarce resource, but you got to be careful when your playing in someone else's sandbox!

Sure you would! Have you ever ridden your bicycle on GMR?

I re-read and think the first part came out wrong. Not "I woulda" as in: purposely hit, but "I woulda" as in: I come around a blind corner and there are bicycles in the middle of the road that should not be there and I can't avoid 'em.

Nope never rode the pedal bike up there, though it does seem like it would be a good workout and a fun downhill, as long as those "crazies" are not there...:D

Cool! Not sure if you viewed the video but you can see and hear the cars coming from a mile away since it is mostly switchbacks.

Of course one slips by once in a while but, one of those cruiser shaft drive bikes. But for the most part, a motorsickle can be heard from a long distance away. Yesterday I heard a big fast heavy motorcycle approaching from behind. Turned out to be some little toyota truck with a campershell.:D

I myself would not and never wear a radio, trail road or mtn rides. I just about always ride on the side anyways but with a small group on GMR, we all warn eachother then move to the side when a car is approaching.\\:D/

I train on GMR all the time by myself... Like Mr. Beanz says you can hear cars or motor cycles a mile away... I play nice with others up there and follow the laws... all i am saying is when the gate is closed it is way fun on GMR...

besides about a month or two ago I had a motorcycle pass me on the right on my way down... he had PLENTY of room on the left... that was NOT cool! :?:

Again, a bike is considered a vehicle and has a right to take the lane in this case. When we are desending GMR a lot of us are at the speed limit or beyond it. If you came around a corner you'd have more then enough time to react as we are flying down the road and on occasion have to wait for cars to let us by.

You can also see very far ahead for the most part and you'd more then likely see the bikes ahead.

One can see in the descent video I posted, I caught the car ahead of me, I had to back off a few times. Motorcycles that catch me from behind must be ding 90 mph. Sounds exaggerated but checkout a motorcycle on GMR videos on youtube! Some have cameras positioned to show the speedometer with the road.

Yea, I've been up there hundreds of times on the motorbike and for the most part the downhill is no problem unless the pedal bikes pack up going into a corner. The closing speeds are still pretty high though, but not as bad as the uphill.
Its mainly the uphill with pedal bikes drifting and the tendency to pack up that causes problems with other vehicles, at least in my experience. But, I'm sure you all beat this around ad infinitum.

Have fun up there and be careful, for some reason I think the car or motorcycle will win any scrap no matter who thinks they are in the right!
