Large laceration to the knee

    I had a pretty bad one a few years ago. Similar to the OP's crash, except mine was from impacting a round cobblestone rather than a sharp rock. I hit it hard enough that it split the skin open and took a divot out of the patellar tendon. The doctor was very concerned I could re-open it by bending the leg so he had me wear a leg immobilizer for 10 days. I had stitches rather than staples and those were in for 5 weeks. And probably 3 more weeks to get the range of motion back before I rode again. For something that didn't seem that serious, it kept me off the bike longer than any other injury I've had.

    Hopefully yours isn't as bad, but I'd be careful with it all the same. There's nothing worse than re-injury from not letting something heal properly.
