Lance: The Official Lance Armstrong Thread

So Lance Armstrong is racing the Leadville 100 this year.

Is he going to beat Dave Weins?

Discuss.
If Weins is as prepared as ever, it will be his race to lose. Although Lance and Floyd are naturally gifted endurance-wise and both expert cyclists, you really can't think Dave would be an underdog here...especially in HIS race. It will be exciting and I wish it was televised. Dont' care who wins.

No matter what your opinion of Lance he did a lot in bringing cycling (back) into the public eye. Since he left the tour the hype has died a little. He is one of the most recognized names in sport. If he can bring a little of that to mountain biking awesome. I know we all like our private club, but more money & media coverage to the sport would be great.

Dood! This race looks to be a great one. Throw in Tinker and Etough and that'd be EPIC!
Then I'd be going for sure. That would be the ultimate in mountain bike racing. I was super bummed last year when Lance backed out. Now that Lance is in I'm hoping Floyd will jump in again???

Lance does have a few problems with the technical side but if he gets enough training in I believe he could take it. Dave on the other hand owns this race.

Does anyone know if the organizers even spoke with Versus or ESPN or Fox Sports? I can't imagine a better venue and starting lineup to attract TV coverage. Lance back in the saddle racing. Floyd in the lineup. Dave Wiens, Leadville's own "Lance". Plus I'll take the Rocky Mountains over the French Alps any day. With the right advertising I would hope they would get better Sunday morning viewership than another unknown golf event.

I bet Floyd would have won last year but he was recovering from hip replacement. He still only lost by a few minutes.

Great video! You know it's steep when riders like Dave and Lance are HAB'ing. I was surprised to hear Lance rockin' the downhill. I thought his forte would for sure be the climbs. Obviously, someone has been practicing...a lot! What a great close race!

Cool video and interview clips with Wiens and Armstrong.

These were the results that I expected, where Wiens would edge out Lance...just didn't think they would both shattered the previous records!

I am not surprised at how Lance performed though (downhills in particular). I read his first book and he wrote about how much of a speed freak he is, and how one needs to have that to be able to descend the Alps and win the Tour. It's very clear that he still has a lot of competitive drive in him, seeing that he's running sub-3 hour marathons and now super endurance mt. bike races. Hope he continues so he'll help promote this sport as well.

That's a great video......it definitely gives one an idea for how hard certain parts of the course are.....but it also makes other sections look like a piece of cake!

The section right before the columbine mine turn-around....holy crap is that section steep. Those two made it look like a sidewalk. I was definitely walking the section shown in the video.

The portion of powerline that those two are shown riding.....I walked all of that as well:-)

Wiens wins it! Armstrong second. Both shatter existing record.

Hope the STR'ers racing did well too.

Don't know about any STR riders besides Donkey (Nice Job!! :bang::bang:) but Nate Whitman, 7th, is from SoCal. He was 5th at the Vision Quest this year.

Wow.

Manny is really having a great season. Has he got picked up with a full pro sponsor yet?

I believe Manny has a great relationship with Shoair and will be riding for the team again next year. I'm confident that he'll place top 5 at La Ruta this year. :bang::bang:

Full Face took 7th this year??? Wow, I didn't know that but do know that the little focker is capable and is very strong and determined. Congrats, Nate.
