I don't know too may people who enjoy paying registration fees... With that said, I feel better knowing 1) my money is going to charity 2) I have the opportunity to share a unique cycling experience with friends 3) it's not everyday the streets of LA are closed to traffic 4) you never know what you'll see 5) Police escorts are cool.

    1. Are the streets completely closed to traffic?
    2. Will there be a police escort?
    3. How does one make the trip from Venice back to their vehicle (Bus? Metro? Ride back to downtown?)

Grego: If this ride sounds interesting to you... (We'll talk on Thursday) :)

The streets are closed to cars, but there are controlled vehicle crossings. So it's not a straight cruise. A bit stop and starty at points, especially downtown. But really just a rolling party. By no means the kind of event where you're going to get your heart rate up, just rolling, talking, taking in the sights.

Return trip is by bike!!! :) Out and back is 30 miles, so a pretty reasonable ride. 15 miles, lunch in SM (Bay Cities Deli for the win!!!!), roll back to downtown. All for free, which is really amazing. I'm not trying to detract from the FunRide (sorry if stepped on toes), just wanted to mention this as an option if anyone is looking to ride around LA :)

If it's taking too long (and it is a slow ride due to the popularity) hop on the Metro in Culver City to get back downtown.

Highly encourage you and anyone else to check it out. I've been to two, brought the fam, rode all over, had a really good time.

No need to worry about "detracting" or "stepping on toes"... :)

    1) This website is all about "sharing" (information / knowledge etc.)
    2) A couple of friends passed on the Fun Ride due to "financial" reasons.

    3) These types of rides are super-fun.
    4) If your words convince ONE person to attend an event, consider your post a success.
    5) Before today, I had never heard about Ciclavia.
