sorry, put this in wrong forum gene

in honor of national get hurt while riding your bike month, i sandwiched my hand between a rock and the bars today. not nearly as big a deal as some others recently...broken pinkie metacarple in the left hand. of course it was on a trail i've done 100 times (lynx) and in a pretty non tech spot. pilot error all the way. see ortho doc tomorrow to see if it needs hardware or not. anyone had a break similar to the attached to tell me what to expect? thx, dave btw, don't even own a go pro...

No worries, I moved it to the Rider Down forum. Hope it's not too serious and you're back on the bike sooner than later.

I probably did, but didn't go to the doc...thought it would heal and wasn't broken and now it won't straighten almost a year later. Kudos for going to the doc when you were supposed to, I'm probably screwed. Mine was on Chutes; ate it on Lynx once in fantastic fashion, but walked away unscathed despite falling harder and faster than ever before on the worst possible spot you could imagine on Lynx...it was like a Clark Griswold moment, I just got up, dusted myself off and kind of looked around to see if anyone saw that, checked my bike out and got back on and finished the ride fine. Not a scratch despite a full blown cartwheel, somersault clipped in, helmet contact, etc. Pretty lucky. Made up for my separated shoulder and 9 stitches from a stupid fall off one of the boards in one of the lame deer piss stream crossings in Aliso one morning...unbelievable...

Dude - that sucks. Now how are you gonna bust on me out there on the trails! Cast it and ride. You don't need it for braking or shifting.

BTW, doesn't it seem we all have the worst falls under the most ordinary situations? :?:

    Heal quick, old man :bang:

Ow, that looks, "Ow." Damn. Didn't we fix that trail?

Gotta say you take a good x-ray. Looks like your hand has an aura! Can you send electro-magnetic pulses with that thing?

Really, though, heal up quick, Dave. And do what the doc says.. you need those hands!

    Damn dave, sorry to hear.

Hopefully you wont need any screws in there. I think neil had a similar injury not too long ago and just had it immobilized.

Sucks to hear. I broke my 5th metacarpal a few years back, but mine was cracked along the axis of the bone and not across it. It did displace and so they had to put a couple small screws in it. The surgery was not a big deal. I had a soft cast on for less than a week and was probably back riding in around 2 weeks. The way mine broke there was a lot of surface area for the bone to mend together with. Yours looks like it will take longer to heal unfortunately. Best of luck!

Dave that looks serious. Sorry that you took a spill. Make sure to let it heal correctly before ripping it. I would think the DH would suck with a broken pinky but totally doable =)

Thanks all for the well wishes!
Doc calls it a boxer's fracture, metacarpal in hand below the knuckle. He couldn't push the broken piece back in place today due to the skin lacerations need to heal first. So go back next week to have it pushed/aligned. He thinks at this point no surgery if it aligns properly and gets plenty time to heal.... 4-6 weeks. ugh.
