I might be interested in meeting up with you. That is if you don't mind someone tagging along.

I went and checked the course out last Sunday. I was a bit surprised by the amount of pavement. However, the trails more than make up for the road! Kernan Cycle trail is just so much fun with amazing flow. I'm interested to see how the hike-a-bike section goes during the race - parts of it seem very ridable while other parts seem near impossible. If there is a backlog of people off the bike it could really slow things down.

If I remember correctly, the hika a bike did have some ridable sections and others where pretty hard. And there was a bit of bottle neck going on.

U guys are still going to pre-ride the course? I'm coming from Laguna Beach and it might take 1 1/2 hrs to get there. Do u know if its safe to ride alone in sagebrush for pre-ride.

I think the bottlenecks on the HAB come from people trying to ride the middle. There is a section that you can hop on your bike for about 30 yards, then it ruts really deep in the center that sucks you in and people pile up. I just ride up as clean as I can from the bottom and then once I come off I try to maintain a steady jog up it so when I hit the top I'm not all blown out. The ridge after that is a good recovery section.

We went last month and it was so perfect.
Here is a little vid we made. Lens was a bit dirty and low at times, but you'll get the idea. I don't believe the beginner/sport group do the Spur Meadow Trail section in the beginning, but the rest is all from the course.

Definitely planning on racing. So much fun and one of the longest race routes in the Kenda series. It's a roadies race with the long pavement climb beginning...that thing really sorts the deck between the goats and the not-so-goats. But if you're like me you try real hard to make up for your climbing skills during the sustained downs. This is such a fun course. Damn I'm psyched!

I was out there yesterday and also decided getting on and off the bike seemed like a waste of time/energy. The course was a bit sandy but that should change quite a bit in the next couple of days - it will either be super tacky fun or a muddy mess! I can't wait :).

I thought I read that the expert/pro classes are doing 2 laps of the lower loop instead of los pinos/spur meadow this year.

You should be able to download the route from the Cat 1 race from 2010 from here: http://www.geoladders.com/show_route.php?route=33003

Just look for the "Download route to GPS" button at the bottom of the page.

    Good luck!

Bonelii is always good when it's dry. When rain starts, it's always muddy near the lake and up the hills. The trail can be really soft with chunk of rocks that makes it impossible to ride. I always find myself riding bonelii after the rain coz it's near my place. When I ride the hills and assumed it's dry, I'm always wrong and it's to late the hero. It needs at least several days for bonelii to be completely dry, unless you enjoy muddy trails. Anyway, Bonelii made new trails towards the hills and looks very technical. I will check it out sometime this week.

I was out there today... The top was covered in snow and so was about half of the #1 trail that you have to take down to Sky Valley Road. Other than that everything was wet and muddy and it was challenging at times to stay out of the big rocky ruts that were created by the motorcyclists and the water runoff.

I hope that the sun works its magic and dries everything out as much as possible and that it does not dump anymore until after the race...

In any case, I can't wait until next week. It should be a great race!

Has anyone heard of these races being postponed due to rain/trail conditions.
I'd hate to think what 100 riders could do to that place if it were rode too early.

Went to pre-ride Sagebrush this morning. It took me about 3 hrs including rest, photos and getting lost to complete 18 mile course (The pro's I think will be longer) We skipped the final 2 mile downhill and took a easy way down. Better pre-ride this course if ur planning to race. This is no joke when snow and muddy. I wanted to quit but, I was riding along with....who kicked my ass big time. Oo maybe I was just Imagining things :) I am now having second thoughts. Really! U decide. check my photos. I didn't get shots from the tough sections. Remember that next week is scheduled to rain again
