All I can say is: Saturday’s trip to Fontana was unforgettable for many reasons.
The weather was perfect. Many STR members were in attendance. The track/trail conditions were perfect. The hills of Fontana were GREEN...

I would not have been in Fontana (this weekend) if not for a PM from Pato. Apparently, he was lending Julia his Demo 8 DH bike! I was curious to see how well she would do on a bike better suited for downhill racing. To say she destroyed the DH course would be the UNDERSTATEMENT of the century! Amazing! Simply amazing!

Downhill- Julia very quickly became ONE with the DH bike. No learning curve. I am sure having a 9” bike with FLAT PEDALS had a lot to do with it! Note: last week she ran clips! #-o She remarked how the geometry of a DH bike made her feel much more comfortable on the steeps. Uh, yeah! I was very proud of her. Elvia was proud of her. Her Sister was proud of her.... and then it happened! :o While riding down a super-slow speed rock section (after the saddle), Julia got hung- up on a rock. She attempted to put her foot down , missed the rock she had planned to step on and proceeded to fall/ roll 5 feet down the hill. The fall was quite minor. Julia was unfazed. She hopped right back on the bike. Unfortunately, Elvia saw everything from the ground BELOW. To Elvia’s credit, she remained calm. Overall: Julia exceeded all of our DH expectations!!!

4X- Even though Julia’s DH skills are very impressive, no one will question the fact 4X is her sport! She absolutely LOVES IT! The improvements she made in 7 days are nothing short of astounding! From her starts, to riding high on the berms, setting herself up for the next turn, pumping the woops, looking ahead, braking.... couldn’t find fault in anything she did. She even threw in a jump or two at the finish line. The one thing that left many of us scratching our heads was how much FASTER she was by the end of the day! I guess the 50 or 60 runs (she took) had something to do with that. I assure you, her newly donated membership at the ORANGE BMX track will only make her faster. Cough... 2WheelLee... Cough... The kid needs you... cough!

Special Thanks to: The INCYCLE crew, Elvia, Ricky, Mudman, Danny, ChewYeti, Chauvinist Youth, Mott, Sharky, Vince and everyone else I rode with today! Almost forgot.... STR’s newest members (Kyle and his girlfriend).

Brandon- The picture is of ADRIAN'S "BROTHER." Everyone knows ADRIAN rides for Foe's!

Good times! I learned a lot of new things and finally got to jump some things I didn't think could be done in one day on a new bike. It was great riding with everyone and even putting a face to some familiar STR usernames. Thanks to Dino and others for constant incouragement. Didn't crash the whole day!!!

The new bike took some rock chips though.. :( haha
Also watching Julia training with such determination was inspiring- even though she was too lazy to push her bike uphill herself. ;)

Ricky decided to open up a can of woop a$$ out of nowhere and show everyone what fast 4X looked like. It was cool to see how fast you could really go on that track. And also being able to clear the table top at the end was a big accomplishment for me. Turns out I'm more of a newb than previously thought. and thanks to Danny for the pointers on jumping. I look like a football player in my armor!

Can't wait to hit the track again!

yes julia got faster every run down. i think a few trips to the orange bmx track to work on manualing and a couple more trips to fontana and she will be able to get those 1st place trophies with time to spare:bang:props to garry for going for the step downs and jumps, next time i get out there and your there we can step it up a knotch:clap:

These little kids were WICKEDLY fast! OMG!

STR'S newest member... in awe of "The Chewi"

Julia's new bike? Maybe!

Julia TRULY impressed us today. See for yourself....

Preparing for a turn

Perfect position. High off one berm... setting herself up to go high on the next

Perfect line... Perfect bike and body position! :D

Pedal... pedal... pedal..

Woops... Stutter Bumps... No problem!

High off the berm... Looking ahead. Perfect!

One minute she is on the 4X bike... next minute the DH bike. Hmmm... Maybe she can do BOTH! :D

"Tell Me" she is NOT a racer! I dare you! [-X

Look out Ladies... There is a NEW girl in town! ;)

Note: Julia did much of this one her own. While she did receive 4X instruction, we left her alone so she could work things out on her own. She did just that!!! Good job kid!!!

NICE job guy's!

Sorry i missed it, but I'd already told Jake we'd go do some trail riding.

Julia, keep having FUN!

That's how you'll get faster. and the faster and stronger you get, the MORE FUN it becomes!:clap::clap:

Did Danny hit the ladder drop?
That things been calling my name........#-o

Sounds like time well spent! Will Julia be racing this weekend?
That membership at OBMX will seriously hone those skills your teaching Julia, Dino. You guys deserve an appluase! (I can't spell...sorry about that. :D)

i didnt get to because Dino made sure that no one go off it:lol: but next time hes not looking....:bang:just needs a steel rake at the landing and it will be perfect.
Just need a mini Shovel and we are good to go, I'd actually like to try the ladder drop as well...
Did Danny hit the ladder drop?

Dino wouldn't let anyone do it, it was a good call because the landing is so sketchy (to me at least) and a fall would have been BAD. But with a little time massaging the earth it may be a safer landing.

Theres some cool stuff there!

If I had not been there- NO DOUBT they would have taken it!
I made a promise to Danny's parents- no stupid stuff!
When he gets a bigger bike.... can't make those kind of promises!

What TRULY bums me out is the fact RICKY hides a shovel in the rocks.
Someone took it. Not cool... not cool at all!

Funny moment of the day.... (And YES, I am going to laugh at someone else's misfortune).
*** There was a group of 7 or 8 teens who were riding the 4X course helmet-less on their BMX bike. We kept pleading them to wear helmets! One young kid decided he wanted to shoot his mouth off. As he zooms down the third to last berm, (for no reason) he YELLS the words, "HELMETS ARE FOR PUS$IES!" Ohhhhh really! :-k :-k Thirty seconds later, he flies over the finish line and proceeds to eat ROYAL SH!T. People rushed over to him... he was crying... he was stunned... he was embarrassed. SIXTY seconds later, he was on Sharky's phone ASKING HIS MOTHER to bring him his helmet!   I asked him why he wears gloves- He crashed once and was pulling gravel out of his hands for a week. I asked him how fun pulling gravel out of his head would feel. Rest assured, he will be wearing a helmet the next time we see him!

Dino - Thank you those pictures are great. Julia's mom forgot the camera this time.

Mudman - I agree with you it was an inspiration to see such determination and commitment. On the way home she told me she's not ready to race this weekend.

1) She wants to ride the entire course at the same speed
2) She said she hasn't perfected her 4X ride yet or something like that

Ricky - Julia is still waiting for the Hot Dog

Julia had a great time out there yesterday loved riding with all of you. Sharky she loved you thinks your too cool. Julia said she loved it that your so laid back and another chic on a mtb riding the 4X.

Julia will talk about racing and when with Fred and Dino.

Thanks everyone for such a fun time.

It sounds like she is having FUN, and knows her limits.
That's perfect!
She'll know when she's ready to step it up, and with you guy's helping her out, and her Mom encouraging her, and she'll be killing it, in no time!:bang:

Elvia, from a Dad who's daughter races (not as much now as she was before) you're in for a lot of great memories.
The main advice I can give is to make sure it is always about having FUN!
Once it becomes work, it isn't fun anymore. For parent or kid.

You guy's really seem to be on the right track. Keep it up, and keep the post's comming!:clap::clap:

Now that's FUNNY!:lol::lol::lol:
