We started around 8:35 or so. Ricky and Bryan ended up turning around somewhere after Holy Jim because Ricky was pretty beat after doing Holy Jim on a heavier bike. Don't know what time they finished.

Dutch and I finished about 2:52pm. We had a moving time 4 hour and 13 minutes, and a total time of about 6 hours and 19 minutes.

Like many have said, you have to earn Joplin. Just no easy way there. Even if Harding was open, it's still a stout climb from there to the saddle. You can always leave a car at Cook's, then drive to Maple Springs and go up that. Now you'll want to do Joplin even more that you were so close .

that I do. I'm not even tired from doing the trip to the top of holy jim and back, even though we parked out by the road. somebody gimme a date and I'll try and show up for the ride.

FWIW, it was still fun bombing down HJ and the road back to the parking lot. stream crossings are fun to splash through :bang:

HJ is a fun trail. Upper HJ is even funner but it is really short and you're down in minutes. I plan on adding Joplin to one of my training rides in Feb where I finish with Joplin and then the Luge. It'll be my reward for all the climbing I will do that day. ;)

I think I saw a sign at the top of Joplin that said, "If you didn't climb up here, you can't ride down me." :-s

good riding with you all today, Joplin was (a) killer, and I've got some carnage to prove it. climbing to the peak was pretty grueling but definitely doable once you find a rhythm. by the time we got to the luge both jon and I had some battlescars. I'll post pics and an RR in a bit.
