Finally.

The guy in the brown truck delivered my care package from Mountain High Cyclery today. At long last, I could finally build up my new ride. Rob was kind enough to lend a helping hand (what am I talking about, he did all the work). I still need to trim the steerer once I make sure it's right and shorten the hydro lines (waiting for some braided stainless lines).

Rear Derailleur: SRAM XO

Finally, Indeed

'Bout time we got a new Turner around here. Was getting a bit tired of Kippie's gushing ;)

Your turn now, bro. Where's the maiden flight?

She's a beauty\\:D/

I think you should stay with the long brake cables, you know your own custom look:p

Nice!

Looks great, and I must say, what a great build! Could not have picked as good as parts as you did. Looks like it will be an awesome bike, this is a great looking XC bike.

Very nice Craig! Too bad I didnt get to see it in person today. Tomorrow the EPIC will take to the dirt in Palos Verdes. I promise not to take it off any drops.

You mean you won't test out the Epic's abilities on this drop?

Definately a sweet parts spec on your build Craig! Glad I could help you out with building it. Just think if you got some eggbeaters, XTR cassette and a ball crushing saddle you should be able to get her into the high 24lb range 8-[

Oh, I woke up late this morning and didn't have time to bring my bike and stuff with me so go ride her whenever today. The way it was shifting you shouldn't have any issues with it ;)

Yikes!

Ride report

The ride went well. Lance and I put in about 20 miles at Aliso so we got our money's worth.

The Reba is an awesome fork. I don't have it 100% dialed in yet and I'm impressed.

I'm less impressed with the RP3 shock. I'll play with it some more but it just doesn't seem to handle fast prolonged stutter bumps/rock gardens as well as the DHX-A.

I can really feel how light this bike is compared to my 5 Spot. It rips up the climbs. On thing I didn't notice until today was that the XO shifters don't have a gear indicator on them. I'll need to pay closer attention to what gear I'm in now. I was climbing in the middle ring thinking I had it in the biggest cog in back, running out of gas, when I discovered I had another gear left. Kind of like finding money in a pair of pants you have not worn in a while!

I wasn't expecting it to descend that well, but it's not bad at all. Pretty impressive actually. I need a beefier tire up front though. My biggest problem is going to be making sure I don't get carried away on drops, etc.

The Industry Nine wheels were impressive. Instant engagement, very stiff, but loud as hell - keeps the hikers on their toes.

I really took it easy on the Hope brakes making sure the pads bedded in before I put them to the test. I think they're about 80% now. Thankfully they are silent.

Thanks again to Rob for the great job helping me build it up.

Glad to see you didn't have the brake issues that I had.

Must have been those guys who built your bike Steve :p

Glad things went well with the bike Craig. I will say this, don't expect the rear end to feel anything like your 5 Spot. After going down the Luge on my Burner a few times and comparing it to my Spot, there is a really big difference in plushness between the two bikes.....even with my RP3 being Push'd on the Burner. It's only 1" of travel difference but it is amazing how much better the Spot feels when descending......of course it is the opposite when climbing. Not sure what you have your rebound set at but only 1-2 clicks in from full fast when descending should give you the best compliance. Ride with it for awhile then send it into Push, it is worth the money for sure.

Hey if you want to hang that 2.0 Blue Groove on my tire "wall of shame" you're welcome to.
