Is the 26er dead?

My friend's son has a nice alum XTC hardtail. The bike would be ideal for my son (8 YO, 1st mtn bike). I go to FB looking to buy the same bike. No dice. Check Giant's website and confirm they no longer offer a 26" XTC. Their only offerings in 26" are gravity sleds like the Glory or super low-end faux mtn bikes. My son is at the age/size where he just fits on a XS 26" bike. A 27.5" or 29" is not a consideration. I did consider other shops (non-Giant dealers) and online to find what I was looking for; sorry Dino and Mike. I bought a Revel from FB and swapped out with some XT components and Avid disc brakes I had laying around. There's my market feedback.
