Is everybody here a Homer?

Seems like a lot of people here, understandably so, are Turner bike owners and/or plan to be.

Also seems that there is at least some single speed presence.

Since I am just trying to kill time before my kids wake up and start fighting and i have to get them ready for school, I figured I would ask how many guys (or gals) ride 29ers? On mtbr.com it would appear a lot of people but not sure that reflects reality.

We should also start a thread (if not one already) since we are all geographically close to one another that lists the bikes we own. It would be awesome to be able to loan/ride/borrow a bike we may be interested in buying since as you all know, a lot of the bikes out there just cant be ridden before you buy them, let alone on a real trail. I have only purchased one bike that I actually rode before buying it which can be a scary proposition. Heck, same could go for a fork since I bet across all of us, virtually any fork could be tested.

i'm not a homer and don't plan to be one... as far as 29er goes, i've never ridden one so i don't know what/if i'm missing anything. i do have a ventana el cap or x5 in my sights and i might pick one up next year.

I'd love to get me one o'dem fancy Turners or any "fancy" bike really. Not to say I don't dig and appreciate my ride, but you know what they say, the suspension is always plusher on the other guys bike!

I'd like to build up a 29'er or an ss someday to see what the fuss is all about.

I live in Ventura County but really want to some OC riding as I have not yet....not sure where you are but if you are down that way perhaps you could show me San Juan trail or something......without traffic (ie, leave early) it would only take me abou 1:45 to get there.

My X5 has been through a couple of makeovers....started as a 5by5 bike at about 30 lbs, then transformed into a 33lb 6by6, and as of about 6 months ago is a 28lb 5by5 bike (as pictured)

I dont own a 29er FS (yet) but somebody around has one I am sure. You can always use Ventanas demo program to use one for a week as well....great program

Ha! I may not be a hucker but you sound like me about a year ago.....not only would i call my friends idiots who did single speeding but I would be darned if I recommended a hardtail to anybody as that was an obvious stupid idea!

Bought a cheap Surly single speed on ebay to shut my friends up and the rest is history.....in a years time I ride hardtails 95% of the time with my FS bike only getting a ride if I loan it out and my FS bike that I had just built up to be the ultimate XC weapon (pictured) was sold within a few rides of building it up after taking about 6 months to decide on all the parts.

But of course cause I am such a loser I had to spend now almost as much on hardtails as I did on my FS bikes.

Glad to see another Rocky, even if you sold it! I ride a RM ETSX-50 myself...sometimes I wish it had more descending ballz, but then again, sometimes I wish I had more decending ballz!

And I live just north of the intersection of the 5 and the 74, so San Juan trail is really close!

A couple of old riding buds have and love them.
Which one you ride? Jenson has an XLT on sale for cheap!

I have the same model since May last year!! yes I've seen the sales on Jenson!! really nice deals! I'm very happy w/My Jamis and love the MOFO!! but then again I have never used anything else so, I'm a Virgin to all the different bikes out there!! maybe I can demo some of your bikes dsstepper? I live in Anaheim so u could show me trails I havent done yet =P~ I've been thinking of getting a SS thing but not sure yet :lol:

FoShiz, I tried the hardtail thing when I bought my Cove Stiffee. Even as aggressive a hardtail as it was and with a 5" Z1 on the front my back just couldn't take it. I actually liked the bike a lot, it was fairly light (around 28lbs) and it begged for technical trails. I still have the frame and have thought about building it up again.....just not sure I want to because I know after I ride it a few times and my back starts killing me it will probably just end up collecting dust. For a hardtail though it the Stiffee was right up my alley with its laid back geometry.

For anyone else thinking of getting a "laid back" hardtail, the Jamis Komodo fits that bill as well. A buddy of mine rides one and like Rob, he put a long travel fork on it and loves it. Dirt cheap too.

I am not a real man (more like a 12 year old girl with a receding hairline) which is probably why I totally dig hardtails. My new hardtail being built will have a 70.5 degree hardtail which is slack for me
