Irvine Bicycles (formerly Sand Canyon Cyclery)

I read your comment on Irvine Bicycles (formerly known as Sand Canyon Cyclery Crooks)

Sorry for the experience you had to go through with them. However, I had a rather similar experience from that shop. This is a warning to all follow cyclists, avid cyclists, weekend warriors and professionals. I want to point out how deceiving and conniving this business is. Believe me they know how they are and they don't care about your business with them. That bike shop has been struggling over the last couple years. I'm surprise there still in business.

Last year I was shopping for a road bike. I made couple of calls to LBS in O.C. on a specific brand with specific components. I was literally doing my homework to get the best price for the bike.
Then I called them to get a price match/beat. They seemed to be friendly at first to get your business going. The price that they gave me was great and could not turned down.

However it turned into a nightmare after I had given them a small deposit for the order. Now they claim they did not have the bike in the store and needed to special order from the manufacture. Apparently, I discovered that they had it in stock all along. Then next day I got a call from them letting me know that the bike had arrived and was built and ready for pick-up.

Because of some unforeseen financial issues I decided to get my cash deposit back. . Note that it was not 24 hours just yet since I gave them a deposit the previous day. So I then proceeded to get my deposit back personally at the store. I showed them my "written" receipt and ask them if I can please get my deposit back. The "OWNER" of the store denied my request and would not give me back my deposit.

You chanted away on how unappreciated I was and that they had worked so "Hard" to get the bike for me. That did not matter and I demanded my full deposit back and I had every right to get it back. At this point the "Owner" denied himself as the owner/manager and could not help me. However, he chanted away again and could only give me back half of my deposit or talk to the "Service Manager" for your full refund. Unbelievable!

To make this story short. I did however, manage to get my money back after 3 weeks of conversation battles between them. It was not until I told them that I would contact the BBB, Ripped Off-Report.com, attorney, court fees, and all other legal matters. In order to get my deposit back. There not to be trusted at all or DO NOT DO business with them or your asking for it.

Irvine Cyclery if your reading this right now let me say that You cannot articulate a situation well from a bowel movement. It's probably why you cannot rationalize and use worthless grammar to describe your insecurity.

Your
dangling participles and sentences that end with prepositions are signs of Dementia. Do us all a favor and close/shut down your business and pick up a better trade.

I am at my wits' end here.

Went over to Irvine Bicycles (formerly San Canyon Cyclery) to get my headshok for my Cannondale replaced. They had to order a new shock.

That was over 2 weeks ago. The shock has not arrived. Well, it is not their fault except...

I ask them to check with Cannondale to see the shipment status. 3 times. That has yet to happen. This day and age, you have ways to trace shipments.

"We are too busy. We will call as as soon as"

"They are on the East Coast, and it's too late to call now"

"We will make a phone call the first thing in the morning tomorrow" (Does not happen. Back to "we are too busy to call").

The Project Rwanda Ride is just 3 days away, and I am getting nervous, but yet there is no sense of urgency from the shop. Seen mostly positive reviews, so is this just an anomaly? The total lack of attentiveness is very unsettling.

Update:

I ended up renting an Ibis bike from The Bike Co. in Lake Forest. THAT. WAS. NICE...

Cannondale never processed the order! It shipment was not late. It never happened. LOL. It is turning out to be a blessing in disguise since I was leaning toward using the fund toward a new purchase.

So are they sending you the part or was the order canceled and money refunded?

At the time you made your deposit, did they say it was refundable? I know of only a few that offer fully refundable deposits. I'm not trying to make light of your frustration, however, your story does not seem to be one of being ripped off.

I can understand that you are upset for having to wait for the bike, for whatever reason, but you paid a deposit for the item and they attempted to give it to you within a reasonable time--where is the rip-off? You post seems to be one filled with anger; as an example, you pick on dangling participles, making a personal attack and comparison with those suffering from dementia, while typing out a letter full of typographical errors (follow, I assume you meant fellow, etc).

As for the Cannondale story, I really feel bad for your experiences. There are several LBS shops with a good reputation for customer service. Please, do yourself a favor and check out the other reviews for other shops before you make a purchase.

Although I rarely go cause I've been a bad Niner mommy, I love the Path; their treatment of customers is always top notch, they are regularly on here to address problems (ie, their accessibility is also top notch) and they have GREAT sales, with a rental program as well as great bikes on hand for sale. That's it for my sales pitch. I've also had great experiences with Surf City and Rock N Road, but I think they can be more dependant on the staff with whom you deal. On the flip side, they are also on here regularly and ready to address problems, too. Good luck in whatever you decide! :)

PS. I am not a writer, so I expect that I have several mistakes within my own text--deal with it and know that if anything, I only have early alzheimers, not full blown dementia ;)

GeorgiaOfTheJungle...correct? Well, you don't know the full blown story. I tried to make to make my story short as possible.

The rip-off is, at that time there where no printed policies or store procedure on either the receipt or in the store. Just a written receipt indicating the date and the amount of my deposit. Nor where there verbal words from them on special orders. Does this make sense to you?

Sorry if you don't get my sarcasm quotes.

my story

I purchased a seat post from this shop because they happened to have the length I needed for a decent price. I even mentioned to them that I needed to run the post way up in order to get the correct positioning. Well, three weeks later I bent the daylights out of the post. I called the shop and the owner said come on down for a refund. He took the post back from me with no proof that I even purchased it from him and gave me cash right out of the drawer. I thought that was pretty cool.

It is hard to find good customers, same goes for me as I am a mechanic. You made a poor choice going and buying a bike by putting a deposit down then reneging on the deal. They should have given your money back and said please patronize another store in the future, thanks.:)

So are they sending you the part or was the order canceled and money refunded?

I canceled the whole thing all together and got my money refunded.

Even though my experience with the shop was bad, and the new owner may be less than upright, I would like to go on record to give kudos to the shop's head mechanic Josh. Even though his customer service skills may be lacking (he is a mechanic, not a receptionist), he is a very knowledgeable and upstanding individual. Cannondale dropped the ball, and most of the blame goes to them, not Josh.

I've had Josh process a couple of warranties with Cannondale for me in the not too distant past, they took forever(one frame took almost 9-months to arrive). Josh at Irvine Bicycles initiated the process immediately both times. I wouldn't be so quick to bash them without getting the full story. And as far as tracking numbers, I had the same issue, Cannondale couldn't produce one for me but I have been told their computer system will provide that info now.
