Got out Saturday for another IRC ride, "Loop of Limestone Ridge and Red Rock Wilderness Area." What is interesting about that is that I could have sworn I signed up for the "8 of 10 singletracks of Limestone and Red Rock" ride ... but somehow it was not what I showed up for. I think they changed the ride or I am smoking too much crack.
Anyway, it was a big group for an IRC ride, probably 20ish people including docents. Started through Limestone Canyon to the sinks, then up and over to Limestone Ridge, which is one of my favorite singletracks. I misjudged the fact that I thought people were going to stop at the trailhead, so I was lazy on the climbs and got stuck in the back as a result. Oh well ... open access day is Saturday so I will go fast then.
Down Creek Trail, which is the new trail that connects to Black Star Canyon, and then continues over to the back side of Red Rock. Creek Trail is OK, but they built in far too many tight switchbacks that kill any flow. The ride from the end of that trail and over to Red Rock is very interesting scenery wise.
In Red Rock, they inexplicably decided to go UP Raven Ridge (formerly trail #4), which is literally the best trail in the entire park ... in the other direction, LOL. Climbing it was somewhat torturous. We finished the ride going down Tukuut (formerly Trail #2), which is about 2.5 miles of mostly downhill cross country. Fun trail.
And that was it. So 4 singletracks instead of the 8 I though I signed up for. Fun, but I will definitely pay more attento the to kind of rides I sign up for in the future.
