I got up early today for the 7 AM start to the IRC FREEKS ride, which had been on hold for more than a year due to some trail issues. Anyway, this ride has always been on my "do it just to do it" list, and now it's done! Can't see ever doing it again though, LOL.
I just did the climbs at my own pace ... and even though I was dead last on all of them I did not feel like it was overly difficult. It was a good thing I was not racing any of the expert climbers though. Minions are never the best choice for rides like this.
The ride was more of a grind than anything ... the only parts that energized me were the singletracks down Blackstar at the end of the ride.
I did get to ride dirt I had never ridden before, and some of the scenery was pretty great. Despite being sunny, it was not hot and there was a decent breeze the entire time. I am glad I checked this one off the list, and as always a great job by the IRC docents leading it.
