I got out Saturday morning for another IRC group ride, this time at Blind, Fremont Weir Canyons (normally off limits part). It was already hot at 8 AM with bright sun, and everyone was anticipating a very hot ride. That turned out to not be the case as clouds hit early, followed by wind and even some spitting rain.
This ride started in Irvine Regional Park @ Lot C and was 2 miles through the park to the trailhead. There are much closer parking areas to the trailhead, so not sure why they park so far away, LOL. Anyway, after that is is 3 straight miles of climbing ... not necessarily difficult climbing, but consistent.
After the climbing is done, it is mostly downhill the rest of the way. I particularly enjoy Overlook trail and then the fire road that follows. The fire road has some sweet high speed berms that are a blast. There are now cows in that section, so watch out for those, LOL. I saw about 10 off under a tree ... not sure how many they have out there. They must be too big for mountain lions to eat? Unexpected to say the least.
The weird weather turned into a blessing as I was concerned about the heat that never materialized. It was a super fun ride and a big group of 20. Always nice to ride trails with no threat of hikers or bikers coming the other direction, and good to ride otherwise off limit areas.
