You can debate all you want about the speed of change, but the fact remains that we are in a closed system. CO2 (and more importantly, other more troublesome gases like Methane) doesnt just vent off into space. Whether it's happening slowly or quickly, it's foolish to pretend that even the BEST case scenario is that nothing is happening.

Hmmmmm........ climate change continues as it has for billions of years.:?:

Antarctic Sea Ice Sets Another Record

Antarctic sea ice set another record this past week, with the most amount of ice ever recorded on day 256 of the calendar year (September 12 of this leap year). Please, nobody tell the mainstream media or they might have to retract some stories and admit they are misrepresenting scientific data.
National Public Radio (NPR) published an article on its website last month claiming, “Ten years ago, a piece of ice the size of Rhode Island disintegrated and melted in the waters off Antarctica. Two other massive ice shelves along the Antarctic Peninsula had suffered similar fates a few years before. The events became poster children for the effects of global warming. … There’s no question that unusually warm air triggered the final demise of these huge chunks of ice.”

NPR failed to mention anywhere in its article that Antarctic sea ice has been growing since satellites first began measuring the ice 33 years ago and the sea ice has been above the 33-year average throughout 2012.
Indeed, none of the mainstream media are covering this important story. A Google News search of the terms Antarctic, sea ice and record turns up not a single article on the Antarctic sea ice record. Amusingly, page after page of Google News results for Antarctic sea ice record show links to news articles breathlessly spreading fear and warning of calamity because Arctic sea ice recently set a 33-year low.
Sea ice around one pole is shrinking while sea ice around another pole is growing. This sure sounds like a global warming crisis to me.

I was listening about that on the radio earier. People need to fact check before they buy into this global warming issue.

continents move, diverting ocean currents, given time, changes climate....add to that influence of solar activity.....

who knows what the future holds

This thread has definitely opened my eyes. I will no longer get my scientific information from the scientists of the world, but from politicians and businessmen. Truly, they are and have always been those with the firmest grasp on reality, equipped with the best knowledge gleaned from, probably god, and would never mislead us.

Those scientists and their counterparts, the teachers, they're all in bed together, in a socialist elitist academia conspiracy against us poor dumb people.

Ya'll might want to read this:

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/07/30/o...-skeptic.html?pagewanted=all&_moc.semityn.www

    or this...

    http://www.forbes.com/sites/jamestaylor/2012/09/19/antarctic-sea-ice-sets-another-record/ (wait...this reads exactly like Uplander's post...hmmmm....)

    and then counter with this...

    http://www.skepticalscience.com/antarctica-gaining-ice.htm

Somehow, the anecdotal ramblings of an op-ed, even an editor at Forbes, whose qualifications are that he has been speaking regarding energy and the environment on all major networks, and took an atmospheric science class (read: Weather 101), don't carry all that much weight.

I was able find in less than 30 seconds that last link, and from there can find several more independently reviewed Antarctic Ice (Sea and Land) studies/reports/etc....hmmm...maybe his dial-up doesn't work right.#-o

BTW...I would think self-preservation is the bigger issue here...the Earth, plants, and animals will adapt and survive much better than we do, they tend to change behavior according to their environment...we just turn up the A/C.

Warming is not the real issue. The issue is that some scientists attribute the cause (if you accept that there is warming) to human activity and that there will be a catastrophic increase in global temperature for only a linear increase in CO2. Meanwhile CO2 has risen and temperatures have flattened.

Not too long ago the scientists had something different to say -

"Effects on the global temperature of large increases in carbon dioxide and aerosol densities in the atmosphere of Earth have been computed. It is found that, although the addition of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere does increase the surface temperature, the rate of temperature increase diminishes with increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. For aerosols, however, the net effect of increase in density is to reduce the surface temperature of Earth. Because of the exponential dependence of the backscattering, the rate of temperature decrease is augmented with increasing aerosol content. An increase by only a factor of 4 in global aerosol background concentration may be sufficient to reduce the surface temperature by as much as 3.5 ° K. If sustained over a period of several years, such a temperature decrease over the whole globe is believed to be sufficient to trigger an ice age."

Yep they were calling for an ice age!

That prediction was based on computer work done by NASA's James Hansen (the same one who is now a CAGW advocate). Fool me once ---

@uplander unfortunately there is no money in not being "Chicken Little". A whole industry has been created that survives solely on perpetuating the myth that spawned them.

I'm very confused. You think that there is no money in denying climate change? Really? You know that industry scientists are WAY better paid than academics and governmental folks?

    what's your point?

Too bad there was no one around to take a picture 1 billion years ago, or 2 or 3 billion years ago, bet did not look that way. Hell I bet did not look that way 500 years ago.:?:

Bull****. Academics get on the tenured gravy train. Those who pull in grant money are rewarded handsomely. Mann at Penn State is protected as much as Joe Paterno was - its the money.
For public universities the taxpayers are stuck with 6-figure retirement payouts.

NASA records released to resolve litigation filed by the American Tradition Institute reveal that Dr. James E. Hansen, an astronomer, received approximately $1.6 million in outside, direct cash income in the past five years for work related to — and, according to his benefactors, often expressly for — his public service as a global warming activist within NASA.

I guess I should have said public money. You aren't going to see a dime out of the government if you don't preach man made global warming.
