for the sake of saftey, i told my wife, in addition to reporting it to the local authorities, but to post on here if i ever disappear while on a ride by myself.

i know if someone would of called me about Andres, i would of gladly put on my winter gear and went looking for him all night.

i think we could all agree to use this board as a beacon of emergency, if someone goes missing. its nice to have the sheriffs out looking but i would like to have my own network of rescue mtbers on the scene.

FYI, these ham radios:

work great when there is no cell reception and would something to have for rescue missions. i have 2.

I am with ya. We leave nobody behind, and we own the night, what could go wrong? I would not count on seach and rescue, the guys I know in VTA and LAC S&R call it "search and recovery".

Remember rule #1, treat yourself for shock.

You have two of the baofeng? I was thinking about giving it a go, for that price I suppose they're almost disposable.

I'd help if the call came...

BTW- FCC designated S&R freq = VHF, 155.160 I have my radio preprogrammed w/ it.

ya i have some different models but i bought two when i did. gave one to my wife and one to me. we mainly used them for desert applications. but also this past year, we did alot of traveling and i didnt have anyone to ride with. so i would go riding these new to me trails in the towns we were visiting and i would take one just in case i get lost and dont have cell reception.

I would help search if a call came in, even in the cold (and I hate the cold). My bike light is always charged too....

Does Life Alert work out in the boonies? I know it's designed for old people, but something like that would come in handy if you've "fallen and you can't get up."

Do you operate on the Amateur Bands or GMRS? (these support GMRS don't they?)
