Steps taken to become a dumba$$ :o
  • Leave work early
  • Race home, grab bike, gear and video camera
  • Ride to Oaks, climb 3 b’s
  • Hook up camera at top to video Chutes/Zips ride
  • Turn camera on and start riding
  • Stop to lower seat just before Zips
  • Start initial decent
  • After commiting, realize wire from camera to external lens is not secured correctly and hanging unsafely
  • Begin to remove one hand from bars and try to secure while riding and modulating front brake with other hand (beginning of dumba$$ move)
  • Recognize this is a bad time to try to fix and that I'm riding too slowly as approaching first small "drop"
  • Start to ride "tight"
  • Lock up front brake (involuntary reaction…not recommended unless you're a dumba$$)
  • ENDO!!! (Confirmed- dumba$$)
  • Dust yourself off, finish ride with no other "events"
  • Go home, edit and upload video to share among local riding community
  • Sit back and await the ridicule :?: ](*,) #-o

Haha, that's good stuff. Too bad nobody else was there filming. Might of been funnier if the video had you fumbling with it and then eating it.

Nice video. I've actually never made my way up there and I work down the street at the Irvine Tech Center.

Gonna have to put this on the To-Do list.

Damn, you have your camera mounted to your handlebar? It makes for quite the dizzying experience watching it. And I'm amazed the camera is ok.

Nice!!!

Was there any "after the endo" footage or did the wire disconnect when you hit the ground?

Nah, wire from external camera was yanked out upon impact.](*,)

Actually re-hooked/turned camera back on after crash and thought was on for rest of ride but I must have been a "bit confused" after landing on my head -nothing recorded.

btw- Winston, what's the best/easiest line at that spot? cannot say i got it totally figured out (dumba$$ move aside)

ABC's Wide World of Sports...

Oy! Hope you are in good repair. Footage from handlebar cams bring the sport to life for people who have never ridden MTB. So good for you for capturing the action.

You got nothing on the skier from the old intro to ABC's Wide World of Sports who does an unintentional cartwheel on a downhill run!

Voiceover: "...and the agony of defeat!" Circa 1980s

Ride on.
