Hurkey Creek conditions(old thread)

I am going camping up at Hurkey this weekend, so I called the Idyllwild USFS ranger station (909-382-2921) to find out current conditions.
They said the trails at Hurkey do have some erosion problems that they are evaluating but currently have not been closed.

I've read a lot on this forum that says otherwise, however I am more apt to believe the person working for the agency in charge of closing/not closing a trail.

Anyone ridden there recently?

 

There was a lot of talk about the trails being closed because of a race that got cancelled. I have been up there and it is not closed. Camped at Hurkey and rode. Enjoy yourself, don't worry, the trails will be open, it's a nice campground and a great ride.

I am planning on riding Hurkey Creek tomorrow (Friday) for the first time. Has anyone ridden this recently to give me a trail condition report....mainly, is there any snow on the ground?

We had a great ride at Hurkey Creek this past Friday. That area is fantastic...wish it was an hour closer..Here's the video from the ride:

My one of favorite trail, Missing Link, is not on these maps. It peals off to the right of the road between Third Hombre and Grind Stone. It then drops in at the top of Rage through the Sage:

Yes, since it was the latest update. It's still asking for the trail condition you're asking.

Posting it in the same thread helps me when I go to update the sticky.

I usually merge or update those stickies when new info comes out which I did with this thread. I'll delete older post or close the old thread and replace it with the newer thread/info.

If I don't do this, there will be too many threads asking the same question about the same trail. You'll see as weather becomes more of an issue.

 

Rode Hurkey Creek yesterday with two buddies. All in all the trails are in good shape. There were still patches of snow/ice and some wet spots, but nothing that was not rideable. There was no wind, and it was a glorious day to ride. We saw only one or two campers in the park. Enjoy and have fun.

Anyone know how idyllwild is now? Hurkey or the hub trails...

 

Imagine they are gonna have some snow on them in the next couple of days.
