Mueller was probably carrying a spare tire, spare tube, and a spare chain too. He's fast, he hammers, and things break when you have the ability to ride as fast as he does.

Sounds to me more like the pivot point/pivot bolt failed, due to a loose bolt, lack of checking up or inspecting, causing the pivot to fail, with the triangle failing shortly thereafter.

Inspect your bike triangle, pivot points, bearings, bolts and frame regularly. It 's better than a catastrophic failure.

Did Joe break two triangles, or one frame and one triangle? I don't consider breaking a triangle breaking a frame. A Frame has a serial number, a triangle doesn't.

That's what I was thinking. Holy crap that's a lot of supplies. I carry a few zip-ties, but you guys had it all. Nice work!!

Next time though, maybe just carry a spare rear triangle. It's gotta be lighter than all that tape and zip-ties.

It's all about being prepared. When you're in the backcountry, whether it's five miles or 50 miles from civilization, and there's no cell phone coverage, one had better be prepared....

Exactly! That and The Buddy System. Because 2 heads are better than one. First aid training, and an EMT training is important, too.
