what are you folks using to ship a bike fork?

I've got a fork listed on various classifieds (STR included), and wanted to sell it locally to avoid the hassle of shipping, but I have a lot of out of town buyers asking about shipping. I cannot find a box for this thing. Yes, I HAVE asked two LBSs and they could not help.

So, say you can't get a fork-specific box, what are some other suggestions/options? I don't want to have to drive around all day looking for a stupid box . . . which is why I only wanted to sell locally in the first place.

Thanks.

lbs has a bunch of fork boxes. slip the sales guy a fiver and ask for one. my lbs gives boxes away.

if that doesnt do it for you, you can always do some origami on a large shipping box, a box cutter and tape.

Since we live in the same city why don't you give me the measurements you need and I'll see what type of box I have at work that will fit. :D

Pad the fork well with bubble wrap then using a piece of cardboard from a big box, roll the fork up like a burrito. Fold the ends shut and tape her up.

e.

c'mon man, read the OP, I already tried the LBSs.

fork is 30" long by 7ish inches wide so I'm guessing a 34" x 10" x 6" or something thereabouts.

If your LBS can't even hook you up with a box i don't know if i would drop bills in that place :?:. Regardless, This-

Or, i can just come over and pick it up. I'll save you the trouble of finding a box and shipping it. I will do this free of charge, of course, since you're an STR member and i'm nice like that ;).

Most LBSs will have a spare bike box to hand you, or at least a large box. If not, dumpster dive to find one. Take razor and cut box up to desired size/shape, allowing for flaps to fold in and create solid ends. Use some extra pieces to cut holes in and slide fork legs and steerer tube into to suspend fork within box. Throw excessive amounts of newspaper, peanuts and bubble wrap in and around. Tape that up, slap a mailing label on it and ship to far off lands.

When I shipped my fork to push the post office said to use 2 priorty mail boxes taped together in the center and on the ends. The lady did the whole job for me as i watched.

Yeah, I wouldn't think that any of the LBS would have old fork boxes in the La Verne area. The only bike shop in your area that might have an old fork box would be Incycle. I would doubt that any of the other shops sell too many forks around La Verne

I don't know a fork box is not like a bike box. So they give you a box to a fork they have in stock and the customer asks for the box then what? If they happen to have a empty box for a fork they already sold that's one thing but to give box away for an item still in shop seems unlikely and for good reason.

When i sent my 40 to Fox to have the stancions and bushings replaced I got a box from the UPS store. Wrapped it up like a burrito, like said above, with the bubble wrap. All was good. Good Luck.
