    I was around that area that day running errands. Kicking myself for not postponing work and going for a ride haha

    This video is a father filming his son on that same ride. The youngster (nine years old) didn't seem to complain about the extra, unadvertised climbing at all. :lol:

    thats pretty cool, i would've loved to do this with my father when i was a little kid.

    Yeah, he was a pretty cool little kid for sure!
    As for complaining..I heard more people complained about the 2 mile dirt path at the end than the climbing!
    I think some people that finished the Gran probably looked at themselves in the mirror and said "Wow! I didn't know I had that in me".
    That makes the wrong altitude gain a pretty cool thing!

    That's neat that you got to see the future "tour" winner in action. :bang:

    Dirt on a road bike can be interesting. I did a race in Vermont back in the 80's. After climbing and descending Mount Mansfield to the finish we had to ride back to the "corral" (staging area) and team vans. That was probably an additional 2 - 3000 ft of climbing. The other choice was a dirt fire road that skirted around the base of the mountain. All I've got to say is that a road bike is incredibly durable. :lol:
