Rib belt and lots of milk. I also took coral caLcium that I picked up from a health food store. Sitting in a spa can also help with pain and blood flow to promote healing

Heal up soon. There are some good group rides coming up! What body armor(s) are you looking at?

Are you breathing ok? Get a chest xray to make sure you didn't collapse a lung. Vicodin for the pain but it may make you costripated.

I am breathing okay. It just hurt when I need to sneeze or cough or laugh. It is especially tough in the morning since I have sinus and I usually have lots of water in my nose. If I don't sneeze it out, it will run down to my lung and then I will have to cough it up.

Doc checked the full chest X-Ray and he said my lung looks fine as it does not show any sign of collapse.

    Thanks,

Yeah, watch out for that one - it's no joke.
Recovering from 5 broken ribs right now myself. Not much you can do that hasn't been mentioned already but give it time.
Good luck for a fast & full recovery.

I have one of those. Its good for chest protection. But when youre rolling sidways, I dont think it will save the ribs on yer side as the suit will give in. Better than nothin i suppose.

ouch. Try not to move too much.
Recently recovered from 3 broken ribs.
Doc said they were a clean break, and was lucky they didn't puncture a lung.
Was at the ER, the GF takes her finger and says "is this where it hurts", as she pokes me.
I screamed like a little girl and passed out. The nurse ran in, hooked my up to a heart monitor, and took care of the pain.
It's F'in funny now, but at the time.....

It is painful, just got to suck it up and don't cough, laugh etc.
    And take the Vicodin...really.

Be sure to breath deep every hour or so. one side effect of busted ribs is pneumonia. You'll tend to take shallow breaths, and that can cause problems.

Live with the pain, ride. After a few months it will only hurt when you breath real deep or do some other thing to set it off. So you just need to learn that it hurts on every labored breath, now go ride. Bruised/broke my rib in Haunted Cheeseboro

Be careful taking vicodine before you go riding. Side effects of vicodine include, lightheadness, dizziness, nausea/vomiting, and respiratory depression -all of which can be intensified by exercise. If have been taking vicodine steady for the past few days, your body would have gotten used to the drug and the side effects would be minimal now. However, if you are taking the drug every once in a while, your body will not be as used to the drug and the side effects will be greater.

This does not work with constipation though, the more you take vicodine, the greater the change of becoming constipated. In that case, increase your fluid intake and also supplement with fiber (metamucil works great).

Advil can be taken instead before a ride (up to 4 pills, 800mg).

Someone mentioned Etodolac, that is more for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, has black box warnings for cardiovascular and gastrointestinal risks, and only mild to moderate pain - so you are better off with the advil.

As others have alluded to, vicodine has a high dependency/abuse rate. It is an opiod, same class of drugs as morphine and heroin. So just don't go too wild with it!

Good luck and stay safe out there!
