Holy Jim Sunday July 24th

Sounds good

That sounds good. What route are you planning?

Is this parking area you are referring to by the fire station?

HJ to Trabuco should be good on a 100 degree day.

Not. We do need to plan a group ride for Holy Jim to Trabuco.....but it will definately have to be once it cools down a bit for sure. You just going to go up to Main Divide and then back down? I might be interested....just hate the ride on Trabuco Creek rd.

i think hes talking about by ROse canyon road. you dont drive down the dirt road you ride down it

Thats it. The road is not so bad. A good warm up and cool down ridden each way. I call it macho miles. -- They sound good as 6 miles , but it really is no sweat at all.

Going to creep up Holy Jim at 6:00am from Rose Canyon parking area.

Were you planning on going up and down Holy Jim, or across to West Horse Thief or Trabuco on the way down?

I might be interested :)

I'm in

I'm in if this ride is on.

Look for me in a black Ford F150 riding a red Specialized Epic.

I'm assuming this parking area is at the intersection of Rose Canyon and Trabuco Canyon Rd. If not, please let me know.

I'm still in.

I'll be at the dirt lot at Rose Canyon and Trabuco Canyon by 6:00.

Tomorrow should be a cooler day than today.

See ya in the morning.

So how was the ride? Did you guys do the entire loop? We rode Aliso and started out around 8:30ish and it was already blazing out there.....must have been hotter out there.

Craig (CalEpic) and I just went up and down HJ from the parking lot at Trabuco and Rose Canyon. Nice ride but it did get very hot from the start. My gloves were soaked with sweat by the time we reached the first switchback.

All in all though, the trail was in great shape except for the bushes on the way down cutting into my arms. Pretty grown in some areas.

I'd still like to plan on the full loop on a cooler day, but I'm going to take a little time off the bike. My legs have been completely hammered for the past few weeks and I need some time off the bike to recover.

I'll just be doing some easy rides at AW for a while.

See ya out there

Dude Adam how do u train for the 24 hours of adrenaline in this heat

I usually don't have a problem with the heat, but since the 44 miler at Blackstar a few weeks ago I've been wiped out. I usually don't get caught off-guard, but I know I got pretty dehydrated that day, and it's been hard to get back into condition since then.

I'm taking this week off to recover, but I plan on doubling up my rides after this weekend (before work in the cool mornings, and after work in the heat), plus I'll add a couple of night rides per week in the hills behind my house.

When I was doing 24 running events years ago, I did similar training to get my body used to being active at various times. Seemed to work for me then; hopefully it will work for me now.

Two weeks before the race I'll be doing the Amtrak Century on my Tandem, so I should get a good indication of my fitness level that day.

What about Eric (Evel), did he not show up for his own ride? [-X j/k man.

Holy Jim

A big thanks to JamR for his patience while dealing with my chain - twice. I owe you a beer. My knee was too sore that day to stop at Cooks. As JamR said, it was humid out that day but overall not too bad with the early start.
