I'm looking for a few things:

1) Complete bike
2) Hardtail
3) New or excellent condition used.
4) $1,000-1,500 range
5) Under 25 lbs.

My riding style: I like the XC experience. I enjoy the downs and I really enjoy the ups. Will never wear armour or full faced helmet.

I'm thinking Stumpjumper... What else is out there?

Scott USA has the best hardtail going for around 1500. But there are a lot of others in that price range.

Is there a hardtail stumpy? I thought they were all full sus. If so, under 25 lbs if not impossible much more than your budget.

Look on mtbr.com for a good used bike but buy local only.

Not sure how much it weights... But I was just looking at the Rocky Mountain Hammer... Can you say steel?

Whaddya know about Rocky Mountain?
That bike wont be 25 lbs., but that ain't too bad!
Nice steel frame, disc brakes with a reinforcing brace for the rear, Marz fork.
Could be made lighter with some choice upgrades.
I'd buy that for a dollar...
