I hacked out a script that will take a GeoLadders route and convert it to GPX for import into a GPS unit like the eTrek or Garmin. If you have a GPS on your bike this should help.

http://www.geopacket.com/GeoladdersGPX/

- Visit the URL above, and save the link it contains to firefox' toolbar or add a bookmark in IE
- Visit geoladders.com and bring up any route, make sure you go to the LIVE MAP detailed view for the trail selected.
- Click the link you bookmarked above.
- Change to route/track/point as required.
- Copy the GPX file content to disk, upload to GPS unit, attach GPS unit to bike, and away you go.

You can use EasyGPS - http://www.easygps.com/default.asp - to dump the GPX files to garmin, magellan, etc.

Cheers

Thanks guys! Yeah I know it's just a simple cable, then it turns into software for the computer, then worrying about it before the ride, on the ride, after the ride, etc, etc.

I like having it in my pack when I want to, but I also like leaving it behind most of the time.

Software used to be a problem $ wise...since Google Earth Plus that is an old problem...$20 a year.

Konfoo's hack is pulling only a portion the trackpoints for any given GeoLadders.com route. Something to be aware of, as it could offer unwanted results.

The hack pulls from GeoLadders Google map but GeoLadders does not push all points there due primarily to performance issues. On long roues, for example Vision Quest, the GeoLadders Google map contains only 5% of the total trackpoints for the route.

GeoLadders.com is releasing an activeX control for the Edge 205 and 305 next week and soon after will allow route downloads with trackpoints and waypoints (the complete route).

Indeed, what you see is what you get. I just needed it so I can spot the major turns and get the basic layout of the course. For most, 150+ waypoints is enough.

ActiveX, what year is this, 1995? ;-)

I think the right way to go would be to populate the point array as it is right now, but expose a URL that allows pulling all the waypoints when selected (add a button overlay to the mapping output). Either that or add a second internal array with all waypoints that can be parsed by script injection or another javascript point to gpx conversion function only when requested.

I'm hoping the activex control will also work with other Garmin units that support USB. I don't really want to buy an Edge 205 or 305, because as far as I know, they don't have map capability.
