Got cable rub? I have a solution.

After a few rides, I was noticing some severe cable rub taking its toll on my new frame, and heaven forbid a little paint gets rubbed off of my baby. So, after calling a few LBS' and coming up short, I went into ACE Hardware and looked in the adhesive aisle and found this stuff. It is about 1.5 inches wide, and they sell it by the foot, for 89 cents. It looks like it is for putting on the edge of stairs or walkways so people wont slip, but I thought it would double as a great cable rub protector for my frame. It is about an eigth of an inch thick, extremely tacky on one side, and course on the other, but not course enough to damage cables or hoses. You can customize it however you want. You can see how I rounded the corners and cut the tape/protector to match the curve of my frame. Regular scissors work fine for cutting the stuff.

Thanks! I've been seeing that on my bike too. It's only half a year old and has way too much cable rub. Maybe it's a crappy paint job. I dunno. I'm afraid that it'll rub all the way down to bare metal. I'm getting myself some of that stuff right away.

I can get rid of the electrical tape I have on my frame. This looks way better.

They have similar sticky clear plastics they apply to cars to protect against rocks on bumper and hoods. Maybe Pep Boys would have something like that. It would not have the course side.

I checked for a kit already cut for my M-Roadster and it was about $150. but I am sure we can find something similar for cheap.

Lizard Skins sells frame patches in carbon, black or clear to protect against cable rub. They are only a couple bucks and work great. I use them on my bike(s). Go to www.lizardskins.com

I've tried those in the past and found the adhesive to be less than "sticky", they didn't stay put for very long. Maybe they've made it better since then, but this stuff Dino got is VERY sticky.
