    Hi Desert
I have 2bliss tires on one of my bikes, and was at one time considering going tubeless. When I peeled the tires off I was surprised how much of a "hook" was built into the bead at the tire AND at the rim. The whole thing quickly became more of a Pain in the ass than I wanted to deal with and I ended up pouring some sealant into my tubes instead. Months later while out on a ride I wasn't concentrating properly as I crossed some ruts, and ended up popping out a 6"-8" length of one bead of my front tire. If I was tubeless (ghetto or otherwise) it would've probably been OTB for me! I kept riding long enough to notice a severe deformity in my front tire, stopped and popped it back in. TUBES (with sealant) for me.

I am getting "some" spring back in my step;). The plate and pins are however bugging the sh!t out of me. I'm pretty confident I will get that junk removed as soon as possible.

This totally sucks though. I was just diagnosed with shingles.#-o WTF!?!? My doctor says it is a reaction by my body to the stress of the crash and to the surgery. I guess it's a virus related to Chicken Pox. But I'm working through that pretty well now as well.

    Comes in 3's! IT Band/Crash/Shingles. Yeah! What a 2012...

I'm in good spirits. I got an awesome spouse, STR, and the Tour de France.:bang: What more can a guy hope for?:?:

Well, I guess a healthy body to go for a searing singletrack descent!

I'm running a Purgatory 2bliss 2.4, and for some reason I just can't get it to seat right and it wobbles. Can't for the life of me figure what I am doing wrong? I am running tubes. I've tried putting copious amounts of air to get it to seat. Makes me think it is the wrong tire for the rim. Specialized rim and tire.

I had the same thing happen on my 2012 Yeti. I had DT Swiss rims that we setup tubeless and thought all was good. I was running proper air, and everything was sealed up nicely. I was riding La Costa and was coming down the backside hit a burn going relitivly fast and burp. Over the handle bars, down a small hill and cracked my helmet. Came up to see my front tire off the rim, fluid everywhere and ahhh.... Let the walk begin. I am now running Stans with King hubs set up tubeless with Maxxis HighRollers. Everything is so far so good..... Hope I dont have to go through another crash like that for a while!

17 mm wide rims are too skinny for 2.4's.

I thought it was a specialized rim, not a rim that came on a specialized bike. ?

And yes I would say the those are way to narrow. I am running same tire with 28mm external width.

I was doing some research to verify my rims were wide enough to run a larger tire and came across this Pinkbike tech tuesday article. It's from Dec 2011 but seems to have some good info/insight to add to the whole tubeless discussion (plus some cool illustrations). Didn't see it posted in this thread already, sorry if I missed it...

Tech Tuesday: Wider Rims Are Better and Why Tubeless Tires Burp Air

Thanks VERY much for this post! I haven't seen this article before, but it brings up some great points and explains others very well.
It may also send me to my LBS for a wider set of rims #-o

Dave! Great catch. Glad you posted it.
I'm sold on the thinking within that article. I contacted MBAction in hopes they would do a comprehensive article on Tubeless Technology as well.
    Thanks for taking the time!

Good addition to the thread. Schwalbe makes the same argument.

I'd bought the Sun Ringle Charger wheels for the specific reason that they were 28 mm wide. I run 2.25 to 2.35 tires. The Flows are just as wide, but it was a choice between eyelets on the spoke holes with 24 hole with the Suns, or 28 holes and naked spoke holes.

    I went with Sun.

For 2.1 tires, its recommended to run at least 24 mm.

I remember that article and to this day still is some of the worst writing.

They say 5.1s fail and are too narrow. Later they sat Crossmax SX are great same size as 5.1s. Wait what? Then they say have ID between this an this and it's good, 5.1s fall in that range. Then they say DT Swiss AM 10 wheels are good, just pinned/heavier version of 5.1s. They also mention they had muddy Mary's on old school dt Swiss xc tires and failed at 35 psi, exact same info they gave for the 5.1s. So did both fail? Did there notes fail them? Did they fail to take notes?

The info about how the burping happens seems solid but loses all weight with me when rest leaves you with so many questions.

Took me a couple reads to figure out when they kept going from "inner width" spec to "outer width" spec. Seems most rim manufacturers "advertise" the outer width spec, and you have to dig to find the inner width. FWIW, the rims I could find both specs on, the inner width was 5-6mm smaller than the outer spec that's often advertized. Of course that will vary with the material thickness of the rim.
