FYI: A little trick I picked up from Stan is to tape the rim and then put a tube in and tire on and pump it up for an couple of hours, then take the tire and tube off and the rim tape adheres perfectly to the rim... then put the back on and pump it up until the bead(s) set, deflate , add Stans and re pump... works everytime....

I'm not that patient. I just do it all in one go. Tape the rim, install tire, add sealant & inflate. Done.

I did try the Gorilla tape on an old pair of tubed wheels when the stock rim strip failed. I never had to remove it.

Love that simple tip. Tires are to me, the most important part on the bike, car or whatever. I am willing to spend the extra time for more piece of mind.

if you use sealant, almost any tape will do. think about it, if sealant will plug a punctured tire, it will plug leaky tape seams.

gorilla tape is a good choice. its tough and sticks well. i see no reason to double up. all youre trying to do is to prevent the air from escaping thru the spoke holes. one layer will do.

I've had luck slicing a 20" bmx tube down the middle and stretching it over a 26" wheel. it gives you a good seal and you have a solid valve set in place. You might be able to stretch a 26" over a 29" wheel. After it seals up, cut the remaining tube away from the tire bead.

Why complain about sticky residue when you are just going to lay down a new layer of tape? I remember when we used to have to coat the insides of tires with rubber cement to get non tubeless tires to seal.
