what happened to the 50 or so from the one time I managed to go?

I was thinking about grabbing my brother after work and hitting this Thursdays ride, but if no one's there :?:

    DavidB,

Riding with 50 is fun but so is riding with 8. We had a great time but with lots less waiting and BS'ng. Lights are becoming manditory even with the 6:15 start. Maybe the big Mammoth trip kept a few from riding with us?

Maybe the normal 9 to 5ers can't make it there that early? That's my reason (I leave Torrance at 5:30 pm). Although I had a molar removed this last Thursday afternoon, so I wasn't up for riding much that day.

On the other hand, the riding groups always thin out about this time of year. People can afford $4k on a bike, but not $280 for a high-quality light?:?:

Remember the ride starts at 6:15 and it will get dark before we finish.

You dont need a $280 light to do the loop. Im using a LED lite from Cygolite and for 60 bucks works good.

Actually, you don't even need a light to ride the Fullerton Loop (which is why an LED works here). Based on current LED bike lights on the market, they're good for reading or finding the keyhole. But if you want a quality light for trail riding, they start at about $280. I wouldn't take an LED on any other OC trails (that are legal for night riding).

Who's the slow dude you bringin'?

Even $280 can be hard to justify if your work schedule only lets you go on one or two night rides (at most) per year.

Completely understandable. I'm refering to some other people who have $4k bikes and use the excuse that they don't ride at nights is because the cost of the light.

Unfortunatly with the time change I feel that my days on the loop have possibly come to a close, as the traffic at that time is so much worse than later. Last time it took over an hour from the Path

Rode the Loop tonight and the rain played with some of the trails. There is still some water and even more mud well placed around the Loop. Quite a bit of silt deposited where it never was before. It's all very rideable though - until you get to the train tracks. Everyone is going to get wet unless you can ride the rails. The dam area held up well.

I was going to respond with the exact same comment. I've been riding Fully on Thursday's for about the past 5 years or so, coming from Irvine. My standard route was the 57 and leaving at 4:15, I'd get there at about 5:30.

Using the 55 route, I can make it in about 40 minutes. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes a bit less.

I'm with you on this one.

By the way, if anyone needs a light, Banning Bikes on Harbor (less than a mile from the courthouse lot) has demo lights for free. It's a 24 hour loaner period, so you can pick it up before the loop and return it the next day. They are closed this Thursday for Interbike, but other weeks this is a good option.

Looks like the Rut posse is going to try to get two laps in. We will be starting around 5:20-5:30. Let me know if we have any takers.
