Boats- The shame will be lifted if (for the next ride) you bring 1) a full-face helmet 2) arm and elbow pads 3) a lucky rabbits foot!

Yah, what he said. Ryan you'll be ok w/o a light now. If you're still up for car pooling let me know.

I think something with about 8 inch travel should suffice. But it should be light too, as there are some killer climbs. So bring a bike wwith 8 inches of travel and no heavier then 28 pounds. Also color is important for this ride as we do more posing then riding. Pink is the new black, or is it black is the new pink? The Fully Loop can be quite difficult to navigate so make sure to bring a GPS, Garmin 305 is highly recommended. Also don't forget to layer, the Loop can get cold and at elevation there could be snow. I'd also bring a camelback with two bladders.

Or you could just bring whatever you got and have fun.

There's been several links to the meeting site posted in the past few trips - you'll find it easy.

As for bikes, my son's first try on the loop was with a super small bike (for him - maybe 20" tires), an old Schwinn hardtail, hardnose (?). He cleaned every climb but got a little rattled on one or two downhills. Now he runs a old Trek 8500 with even older SID fronts. He loves it.

The older you are the more suspension you'd like to have under your butt.

FyrFytrRyn- Pain Freak brought up some very good points regarding supplies needed for the ride. I have a few more... ski parka, 200oz. of water, swiss army knife, extra pair of wool socks, bear repellent, MRE's, waterproof matches, flare gun, a spare bottom bracket etc. One essential (yet overlooked) tool that WILL come in handy- a bottle opener!!!

As for which bike to bring- If you have more than one, leave the DH bike at home. If not, bring the big bike! If you get tired, we can take turns pedaling it for you.

Don't worry about the light. By all means, strap a flashlight to your helmet!!! Some of "US" have been known to do the same thing!!!

Directions- 1275 North Berkeley Avenue, Fullerton, CA 92832 - Google Maps

Fully DH Ride?

Are we ever gonna have the Loop ride with Full DH Gear and Big Bikes?

Water proof matches...you should never go anywhere w/o water proof matches

And those emergency mylar ponchos? Invaluable! I hate to be an alarmist, but if you should go down unobserved it could be moments before you're discovered! Why take chances?

Ryan,
Seriously, the Fullerton Loop is where I train for DH. I'm not kidding. Other than a couple times at Fontana, I haven't ridden anywhere but the Loop for a long time (I know, I need to get out more).

My bike of choice is a singlespeed. But when my knee is bothering me, I'll ride a 5-1/2" travel bike. Any bike will do (although your DH bike will kick your ass, but it is doable).

I don't know an address, but if you can look up courthouses, it's the North Orange County Municipal Court. Near the corner of Berkeley and Harbor in Fullerton.

I have a satellite phone..you never know..one wrong turn in the Fully Loop jungle and you could be lost forever.

I'm game!
Actually, I've ridden the loop many times on one of my big bikes (8" front and rear suspension and rotors).
However, TLD helmets suck for breathing.

Most of the lost people have been found in neighboring cities of La Mirada, Brea, Buena Park, or Quada La Habra.

And don't forget to warn him about Steven Jackson. Please don't make me go there.
