This happened around 11 o'clock this morning. He was bombing down and took a spill on Castlewood. He blacked out for about 15 seconds and could not remember what happened. Near the bottom of the hill are two posts (you can see one of them on the far right of the photo), and his friends think he might have tripped over one of them.

He had gashes above his right eye which is where he landed on and cuts on his arms. Other than that, he seemed fine.

I came upon this just as the fire truck pulled up, he might have clipped the pole (trail was muddy at the bottom) and hit the asphalt face first, very bad road rash to head, nose, legs and arm, stood by as paramedics checked him out and put him in neck brace, he chipped or damaged some teeth as well, his bike's handlebars were turned all the way (lined up with front wheel) that's why I think he might have clipped pole. The paramedics even took his bike with them for someone to pick up later, pretty bad injuries, he will probably be in the hospital a few days. prayers for a fast recovery.

Such a bummer; it's so easy to get comfortable when gaining speed there. I had to remind myself to slow down once or twice.

I also had a feeling those posts will claim an injury every time I pass them at the bottom of that trail. It's right before it hits Idaho. Hope the rider comes out ok.

So if he did clip the pole, and land where he is shown in the photo, OUCH. Yes, the dark spots behind him are from his blood.

I doubt he moved from where he landed. His friends where around him to make sure he stayed calm, so I doubt they would have let him move. So where he is sitting has to be where he landed, and you can see the post on the far right.

That sucks. I was just there with a friend new to the Loop about 30 mins before that, and I did notice a bit of mud. You get comfortable riding the same trails over and over, but sometimes forget that this can be a risky sport. I saw a couple guys going helmetless yesterday, which is silly in my opinion. Hope this guy's okay!
