friends on the trail

I saw the usual tarantulas, lizards, etc. while climbing STT today. On this trip, I saw something I don't normally see. A real short wide baby lizard scurried into some weeds in the middle of the doubletrack. I knew instantly what it was and quickly grabbed my camera. I didn't want this oppurtunity to get away. This is only the second horned toad lizard (the first baby) that I've seen. The first one was in 1995 on a back pack trip in Zion's NP.

very cool pix, i think i've seen those skurrying around aliso before.

we had a similar situation where we came across a california king snake on the lower creek area on holy jim, luckily i had my camera and calEpic had the balls to handle it carefully and we got some pix of it.

Funny yesterday on the ride out at Hurkey Creek area, ST Junkie found a baby one that could of been this ones twin brother. He has been using that avatar a long time.

Adam, are they really protected? I've seen a dozen or so this year.
