I have an '04 Fox F80 X and Yesterday about halfway home I realized that it was acting like a pogo stick. #-o When I got home I tried to Diagnose the problem and to the best I can figure I need new seals and an oil change, but to be safe I called Fox. I have yet to find a mechanic anywhere that was less sure of the situation than the one I spoke to
. All he wanted to do was set up a return assist for when I send in my fork. When I finally got a little out of him he mentioned that I could have worn out the Inertial Valve and that it might need to be replaced. Then he told me the prices for the service and the part in question. WTF bro, you were going to have me send in my fork and then what, call me and tell me I needed a $200 part, cause yeah I got that kind of cash laying around  . I couldn’t come to believe that a company like FOX would have such a sales driven mechanic team so I called back and spoke to a different person, I thought I was going somewhere and might even have a chance at getting some kind of firm estimate of what’s going on, but as soon as we got to the meat, BAM! “lets set up a return assist” came flying across my bow [-X . Sorry for the rant, but I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I've dismantled my Dodge to the Crank, and rebuilt it twice. I’ve fixed several other cars / Motorcycles. If I ask a mechanic what’s going on and tell him symptoms he’ll make an educated guess based on their knowledge and experience. Ok, I may be biased and a little mechanically inclined; but come on MAN! How hard is it to fix forks? There are only two sides, spring or dampener; I told you that it is the dampener side, all I asked is what could cause the Valve to remain Open, I’m not going to hold you to your word, just give me an Idea. Hell overload me with info so I feel like I have to send it in. At this point I am shocked and disappointed
What does it take to do an oil change?
Are seals and bushings something I can pick up at my LBS, or do I have to but them from FOX?
I want to fix this problem but right now I can't justify spending, $50 in shipping, $60 Service charge, another $40 in basic parts, and possibly over $200 in extra parts.
HELP!
P.S. Could PUSHing this fork help?
