he was also single speed!!!! And still placed well.

It should also be noted that Gabe actually have a DH bike. Instead he chose to ride an SS hardtail!

If I recall your stories correctly, his hardtail is an amazing DH machine in itself. for me? I'd want a Knolly FR with a boxxer ;)

good luck with that. It's been how many years since the introduction of that frame? and it has yet to hit the market.

I can dream right? my friend wants to weld up a frame, so I might consider making a burly steel DH hardtail for shits n giggles. that's a ways down the road (and after a 35mm boxxer team, paying off the trek, and finishing up the mob for 4x duty...)

speaking of 4x, can I get away with SS? or will I need to invest in some gears by then?

Donnie says you have to run gears, but I have seen plenty of people in the beginner class racing SS.

I decided last night that I will definitely be doing the Super D race and maybe the downhill. Not sure what weekend yet but I am excited because this will be my first race.

Just got back from Fontana. Beutiful day, the rain did some good for the dh course, though ruts in a couple places, but nothing unavoidable.
As far as my dh escapades with 5inches of bike underme, I would have to say, not that bad. I am a pussy and I walked all the tech sections the first run and some on the second, but by the fifth time I was going down everything with confidence. I don't know how competitive my times would be but after today I am seriosly considering doing the dh on the Dawg.

depends on how much of a full suspension bike you have. Easily done on a hardtail though. Does get bumpy in some sections but that's just the trail/dirt, not rocky at all.

Although the Semi-pro class is history, Donny will not be using the Cat 1,2,3 categories. There will be Pro, Vet-Pro and then Expert, Sport and Beginner in 9 year age group splits.
