Is the DH course do-able on a 6" bike? I'm pondering on DH or SD.

I would think that depends on the rider and the course. There are some that race 6.5 " bikes and ride fast.

I know that a full carbon enduro is not the choice weapon out there, but I just wanted to give it a shot. If it won't be competitive, I won't waste my time, but if I can be even remotely competitive, I may give it a shot. We'll see.

I'll wait for your report graves.Z!

IMO I have yet to see anything at Fontana that would require anything more than a decent 5-7'' bike. UNLESS you are really really really fast. I've ridden my hardtail, 5'' bike, 6.5'' bike and 8'' bike out there. The 5 and 6.5 bikes do the best because they are a little more fun.

Most people ride DH bikes out there because that's what they are comfortable on- but again, I think all of Fontana is doable on an 5-7'' bike. NOTE it is not a good idea to race DH on a full blown XC rig though- with your seat in your ass.
You'll do fine. Just trust the bike. :)

Ken, you'll be fine riding a 6" bike out there. Yeah, you may not be as comfortable in some parts of the course, but it's generally all rideable. Keep in mind that they generally make the course so that ANYONE can ride it.

Also, there may likely be some areas where you'll be faster on your 6" bike than guys on their big bikes. All bikes have compromises at Fontana.

There's no better way to get out there and see if you like it than to do it on the bike you already have and are comfortable riding.

A 6 inch bike might be the choice weapon for some of the courses they run.:?:

When you hit the wall you will know what I mean.:-k

gotta agree, there's no need for a full DH bike for fontana. a nice, plush 6" bike will still haul plenty of arse down the hill, and will be MUCH nicer for the pedaly sections. you'll be laughing at all the suckers on 8" bike when you motor through the wall

hell, I'd almost say a long travel hardtail would be completely doable for lower classes. there's either big, techy boulders, or fairly smooth rolling type stuff. FS really helps for things like fast, choppy rock gardens. which are things that are not so common in fontucky... in my experience (havn't seen all the lines yet though)
