I think it was some TV news heli pilots' house, he was just on the air saying his house got phos-checked.

Ya know STR has better coverage than TV or radio! Keep it up folks.

Thanks for the updates and the pics. Sad to see but the trails will still be there after this. The smoke from my place looks like an A bomb was dropped behind Mt. Leukens.

Radio said the plume of smoke is 20,000 feet high - and approaching 20,000 acres at least.

Hope that map is wrong as it show Josephine Peak in the burn area and getting very close to Colby Canyon...That means Strawberry Loop threatened. This is looking very bad.

It's not accurate, yet. The front side of Leukens hasn't burned yet, but there are spot fires cresting the ridge now.

I was amazed at how many planes and helicopters were in such a small area. Its a finely tuned circus of the skies. Props to those guys and all the crews on the ground fighten this one out!

yup they are not going to be rideable for a while until vegetation has a chance to re-establish itself, hopefully it will be later than sooner; as i dont want the trail to erode much more than it already has.

that being said, i think we should organize a couple of trail rebuilding days to get things fixed up real nice-like!

    whaddya say ???

    Correct on both.

I can donate a Saturday or two - it'll be a good chance to get to know the trail in a low-committment environment. :)

Quite possibly much higher. I took this pic in Huntington Beach around 2:00. I used the plumes and a lifeguard station as a line up point while surfing...
