Sounds like Silverado residents should make the area a private community with a gate and next time there is a fire or a flood they can take care of it without county help. They can't have it both ways.

Why would you say something like that ?
I am sure the Silverado residents pay taxes . Even private communities receive fire and police protection.
You are blaming the whole community for the actions of a couple people.
Until you go door to door and ask every resident for their opinion how can you blame everyone ?
I would be willing to bet it is a very small minority of canyon motorist that are the A$$holes.
Just as it is a very small number of cyclist that makes us all look bad .
You are blaming a whole community because of one mans sign.
My guess also is not every incident on the road in Silverado is caused by a resident of the community.
There are Contractors, delivery people, recreational users, People cutting through the canyon to get some where and
people going up there to drink or do drugs. Not to mention those just out for a drive to run their cars through the twisty
sections. How do we know all the incidents are actually Silverado residents ?

Just out of curiosity.....have you ever been to Silverado? You seem to have alot of opinions about the situation but possibly no actual experience with the place.

Because I'm bored and I knew it would get you riled up. I have friends that live in Silverado and I joke with them about this stuff.

Have I ever been to Silverado ? I have been going to Silverado since I was a teenager to ride horses and rope steers.
I was employed by a couple of the ranches from high school through Junior College and sometime afterwards, training
horses teaching people to rope steers and transporting live stock. I still go up there to ride often and to visit friends.
So unless you live up there I probably have been there more times then you.
Yes I have opinions on this subject. Are you polling everyone who post more than once on this thread ?
Are you the Siverado Canyon expert we should bow down to ?
Should I be checking with you first before I voice my opinions?
Sorry I did not get the memo!

@ Rivet......Naw I am not riled up . It sure seems many others out here are. All because of a little sign on some
wacko's yard. My friends and I also joke about the situation as well. Someone last week joked we should have
a large group horse ride on a Saturday morning after feeding and watering the horses heavily then take the lane
in front of a large group of cyclist. Let em do some road apple slalom .

I can objectively look at this discussion from both sides .

    Sure....all of that.

I just found it odd that you would suggest that some of these drivers might be "cutting through the canyon to get some where". Seems like a strange thing to suggest if you've ever spent any time out there. It's a dead end road. Not a lot of cutting through going on.

Wow, I guess taking Silverado Cyn. Rd. to Maple springs rd. to N. main divide rd. is out of the question then.
Forget about driving through to Black Star Canyon it can't happen.
Taking Silverado Cyn. to Silverado Ridge Rd. to Irvine Mesa is impossible.
Eagle Cyn. Rd. and beyond is not an option either.
    Who knew?

    Is that sign still up?

Because if it is, I'm thinking an equally funny sign might read, "The best (Canyon resident) is a dead (Canyon resident)." Just hilarious, right? Of course, some people might get offended, but hey, it's a free country. No harm in making a joke.. Easy enough to make it acceptable with a little smiley face.

I mean, accidents happen and I've had one cycling friend become a permanent "hood ornament," and another hit so hard by a car it crushed his trachea and broke his back, but again, those were accidents. To publicly post a sign making a joke about running over a cyclist is really in such bad taste I don't see how it's tolerated.

Yeah, but with you riding against the flow of traffic what happens when another cyclist approaches you from the opposite direction? Do you go to the left or the right and how is the other cyclist to know which way you are going to go? You are putting yourself, the other rider and possibly the driver all at risk by riding against traffic.
